The Quebec Athletic Commission on Tuesday handed down a 30-day suspension to U.K. welterweight Paul Daley for punching Josh Koscheck after the bell at UFC 113.
However, QAC representative John Judd today said that the suspension began Tuesday and the fighter is in the clear to fight Jorge Masvidal at Shark Fights 13.
"Everything's OK for the fight on the 11th," Judd said.
Shark Fights 13 takes place Sept. 11 at the Civic Center Coliseum in Amarillo, Texas, and airs live on pay-per-view.
The punishment comes after three months of limbo in which Daley busied himself with a fight in Australia at "Impact FC 2 - The Uprising: Sydney." The fighter was immediately released by the UFC following the May 8 event at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Daley threw the punch after Koscheck dominated him on the mat for three rounds in the pay-per-view card's co-main event. In the end, "Kos" got the judges' nod and secured both a coaching slot on "The Ultimate Fighter 12," as well as a shot at welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.
Until then, Daley had blazed a trail in the UFC welterweight division with stoppage victories over Martin Kampmann and Dustin Hazelett. The British striker eventually apologized for his actions amid scorn from fans and the media, though he would later say the incident would not hamper his fight career.
Daley was not reachable today for comment.
Shark Fights 13 is the promotion's most ambitious effort to date and features a light heavyweight headliner between UFC veterans Keith Jardine and Trevor Prangley, in addition to bouts featuring a bevy of UFC and WEC veterans.
