Heavyweight Christian Morecraft (6-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has signed a four-fight deal with the Ultimate Fighting Championship and meets fellow youngster Stefan Struve (19-4 MMA, 3-2 UFC) in August at UFC 117.
Linda Shields, Morecraft's manager, today confirmed the signing with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).
Morecraft looks to improve to 7-0 during the fight, which was first reported by MMA FIght Council.
UFC officials have not officially announced the fight, which takes place Aug. 7 at Oracle Arena in Oakland. The night's main card airs on pay-per-view, though Morecraft vs. Struve is expected to be part of the night's unaired preliminary card.
The 23-year-old, 6-foot-5, 265-pound Morecraft is based in Massachusetts and trains with Cape Cod Mixed Martial Arts in Plymouth. Since turning pro in April 2008, he's posted six consecutive first-round stoppages. None has lasted longer than two minutes and 40 seconds.
Morecraft, who's competed with the Northeast-based Reality Fighting and Cage Fighting Xtreme (where he holds a title) promotions, owns three submission wins and three knockout victories. Most recently, he handed Lee Beane (6-0 at the time) his first career loss. He's also defeated Josh Diekmann (9-2) and Eric Foley (3-0).
The 22-year-old Struve, meanwhile, was on the verge of title contention following a three-fight UFC win streak that included wins over Denis Stojnic, Chase Gormley and Paul Buentello. The 6-foot-11 fighter, though, then suffered a swift 39-second knockout loss to "The Ultimate Fighter 10" winner and former IFL champ Roy Nelson at UFC Fight Night 21 in March.
Despite the setback, Struve remains 8-2 over his past 10 fights, and the only other loss came to heavyweight contender Junior Dos Santos in his UFC debut. Source: www.mmajunkie.com
