DREAM's long-anticipated light heavyweight tournament will take place, albeit in a bite-sized package.
An eight-man tournament recently scrapped for May 29's DREAM.14 has been rescheduled as a four-man competition at DREAM.15. The news was first reported by Sherdog.com.
DREAM.15, originally rumored for July 19, is now expected to take place July 10 at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.
Former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi (28-3-1 MMA, 5-0 DREAM), who was expected to take place in the eight-man tournament, was confirmed today for the new tournament by DREAM officials.
As MMAjunkie.com first reported, a lightweight bout between rivals Tatsuya Kawajiri and Shinya Aoki is also expected for the July 10 event. Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem is also penciled in, as well as DEEP 155-pound titleholder Katsunori Kikuno and Melvin Manhoef, according to Sherdog.com.
Next up for the Japanese promotion is DREAM.14, which currently features seven bouts, including a scrap between Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz and longtime veteran Hayato Sakurai. MMA deity Kazushi Sakuraba is on tap to face Ralek Gracie.
The event also features the promotion's second experiment with "The White Cage" used for DREAM.12 this past October.Source: http://mmajunkie.com/news/19222/dream-2 ... n-july.mma
