With Mayorga out, N.C. pulls plug on Shine Fights "Worlds Collide: Mayorga vs. Thomas"
Just hours after Shine Fights broadcaster Karyn Bryant informed the world that Ricardo Mayorga had been officially pulled from tonight's Shine Fights pay-per-view event, the entire event has been scrapped.
"[North Carolina] commission cancels Shine Fights," Bryant posted on her Twitter account.
Shine Fights officials have yet to make an official announcement, but MMAjunkie.com has confirmed with sources close to the event that the ring at the Fayetteville, N.C., venue that was to house the event is already being dismantled, and tonight's pay-per-view event has been scrapped.
The North Carolina Boxing Authority officials weren't immediately available for comment.
The death blow for Shine Fights event came after the organization suffered a fatal wound earlier this morning. The promotion was barred from utilizing advertised main event competitor Ricardo Mayorga after a Florida judge issued an injunction requested by Don King Productions, the company that holds Mayorga's boxing contract.
King later filed a cash bond of $1 million, and while Shine Fights officials initially claimed that the event would go on as planned, they eventually elected to promote a David Heath vs. Murilo "Ninja" Rua bout to the main event position, according to Bryant.
However, the North Carolina commission has since scrapped the event altogether.
MMAjunkie is attempting to contact Shine Fights officials and will have more on this developing story as it becomes available.
