 UFC 110 sold out quickly for the American mixed martial arts promotion’s first event in Australia. UFC president Dana White on Thursday said he thinks the trip down under will become an annual affair for the mixed martial arts juggernaut.
“This will probably be an annual event,” White told the media at the UFC 110 pre-fight press conference in Sydney.
“Obviously if you see our track record, when we go somewhere and it’s very successful, we usually make it an annual event. Montreal, we did it in Columbus for a while, etc,” added White.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship also did the same thing when they broke into the United Kingdom market by holding events at the O2 Arena in London back-to-back years.
“We’re pumped up,” said White about UFC 110. “We know how crazy the Aussies can get, so we’re excited for Sunday (in Australia, Saturday evening in the United States).”
Australia is a new market for MMA and the UFC. The Las Vegas based promotion has been aggressive with its global expansion in recent years, going to England, Ireland, Germany, and now Australia with UFC 112 scheduled for Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.
