Its because Wikipedia changed from UFC Fight Night 172 to 173 in the last minute.

I wish there was a different source for the fight cards that everybody used but unfortunately scene goes by Wikipedia title of event.

You make sense of this:

And most of all, why doesn't UFC have a proper website with fight cards? Why do we use an external website?

Now its starting to get really annoying "UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Oleinik (also known as UFC Fight Night 174, UFC on ESPN+ 32 and UFC Vegas 6)"
Four different names for the same event.

I think the scene groups should continue to label the events like PPV = UFC #, ESPN events = UFC on ESPN # and lastly all the ESPN+ events are UFC Fight Night # or you could rename them all UFC on ESPN+ # but for my archives I keep them as Fight Night then the #. Does not matter to me if the main event is in the title or not.

Thank you for your input!

I really respect your opinions and I have similar thoughts, but it really doesn't matter much what we think in the end. I wish they never started with the "on ESPN" naming but it's too late now :P

Scene has followed Wikipedia for over a decade. So Wikipedia kind of rules what the event name and number should be. Its not feasible to go back and change ALL the events in the past to have new numbers. It would be madness.

So our choices are:

1. Continue to follow Wikipedia event naming structure:
UFC PPV has just a number in the order the PPV are broadcast. UFC Fight Nights have a number in the order the events where broadcast, except when the main card is broadcast on ESPN (not ESPN+), then they get a number in the order of ESPN broadcast events.

2. Use the UFC official event name. For example:
UFC Fight Night Smith vs. Teixeira
or
UFC Fight Night Jacksonville Smith vs. Teixeira

or possibly
UFC Fight Night 2020 Jacksonville Smith vs. Teixeira.

3. Use the date. For example:
UFC Fight Night 2020 05 14 Smith vs. Teixeira

What we can not do is take a random number and add it. It either has to be in the Wikipedia order that we followed for over a decade, or option 2 or 3.

In my opinion the main events should all at least include the number of the order in which they come out, the same goes for the fight nights with their respective number.
I don't really think the rest is important but I do dislike when they include the tv channel, I understand that they're trying to promote it but why would anyone care where it's on?
