It turns out Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen weren't the first selections as coaches for season 17 of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF). Well, Sonnen was but Jones wasn't.
For those in an uproar of the decision made by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) to have Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones coach against Chael Sonnen on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 17 before their fight in April 2013, I've got some news for you.
That wasn't the first option.
Before asking Jones to take on Sonnen, the UFC asked Quinton Jackson if he would do the honor. That's according to MMAFighting.com, who got the word from the man himself, who obviously said no.
"Forget TUF. I'm not interested in that. I don't want to fight Chael. He's the kind of fighter that I don't want to fight. He's a boring fighter that just wants to hump people."
Instead of a coaching gig followed by a bout against Sonnen, "Rampage" wants to square off against Glover Teixeira, who he was originally scheduled to throw down with at UFC 153: "Silva vs. Bonnar" on Oct. 13 in Brazil before an injury forced him off the card.
He's also been calling for a Forrest Griffin rematch while slamming UFC Matchmaker Joe Silva but that's irrelevant seeing as Griffin is fighting Phil Davis at UFC 155.
What do you think of this update, Maniacs? Surprised Jackson said no to a lucrative gig and a big money match-up against Sonnen in favor of a seemingly lesser bout against Teixeira?
