Under here you can find post fight news related to the event.

Spoiler:
Friday's UFC on FX 1 event drew an announced attendance of 7,728 and a live gate of $334,860.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) learned of the figures during the event's post-fight press conference at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn.

The Tennessee Athletic Commission will release official tallies in the coming weeks.

UFC on FX 1 marked the first FX-televised main card in UFC history, and prelims aired on FUEL TV. Both channels are part of FOX, which kicks off a seven-year deal with the UFC earlier this month. The FX and FUEL TV cards essentially replace the UFC's smaller events that previously aired on Spike TV and Versus.

Friday's event featured Jim Miller's submission victory over fellow lightweight Melvin Guillard in the night's main event. Josh Neer, Pat Barry and Mike Easton also picked up wins on the main card.

During a busy stretch that sees five Zuffa events in five weeks, the UFC on FX 1 show flew a bit under the radar. However, a late-week sales and media push helped sell tickets, and most of the 19,000-seat venue's lower bowl was filled.

UFC on FX 1 was the second UFC event at Bridgestone Arena. The first, UFC Fight Night 18, took place in April 2009 with a Carlos Condit vs. Martin Kampmann headliner. The show drew 10,267 attendees for a $626,077 gate.

Additionally, Strikeforce held a show at the venue in April 2010. The event, "Strikeforce: Nashville," aired on CBS and is perhaps best known for a brawl that broke out between Jason "Mayhem" Miller and members of the Team Cesar Gracie camp afterward. The event drew 8,196 attendees, though a gate figure wasn't disclosed.

Spoiler:
Nick Denis, Jim Miller, Pat Barry and Christian Morecraft each earned $45,000 fight-night bonuses for their performances at Friday's UFC on FX 1 event.

Denis earned the night's "Knockout of the Night" award, Miller picked up the "Submission of the Night" bonus, and Barry and Morecraft earned "Fight of the Night" honors.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) learned of the bonus winners and award amounts at UFC on FX 1's post-fight press conference.

UFC on FX 1 took place at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn. The night's main card aired on FX, and the preliminary card was broadcast in its entirety on FUEL TV.

Newcomer Denis kicked the evening's fight card off with a bang, tying up with Jospeh Sandoval and delivering a series of crushing elbows to the temple that saw his opponent collapse to the mat in just 22 seconds. The impressive win scored Denis the "Knockout of the Night" bonus.

Miller's submission win came in the evening's main event. The gritty veteran avoided Guillard's early flying knees but was knocked down with a crushing hook. But Miller pressed through the trouble and worked to Guillard's back before sinking in the rear-naked choke and earning the "Submission of the Night" check.

Barry's knockout win over Morecraft came courtesy of a crushing left to the chin, as well as a few pinpoint ground-and-pound blows that left his opponent unconscious on the floor. Of course, it was Barry's improved grappling defense that left him in a position to net the win, wrestling away from several submission attempts that seemed destined to end the fight. The back-and-forth affair scored both fighters the evening's "Fight of the Night" checks.

Spoiler:
Melvin Guillard is stuck in a two-fight skid, but the two losses couldn't be more different in his eyes.

After putting together an 8-1 run, Guillard was knocking on the door of a UFC title shot before a heart-breaking, gut-wrenching 47-second defeat to Joe Lauzon in October.

Guillard's latest loss, though – which came to Jim Miller in Friday's UFC on FX 1 headliner – is a bit easier to swallow.

The Lauzon loss shook Guillard to his core. As his personal life finally found stability, his fighting confidence was never higher. His stock was soaring, and many wrote off Lauzon as a mere speed bump on Guillard's long-awaited rise to the top.

Lauzon, though, proved anything but a gimme. He clipped an overly exuberant and seemingly cocky Guillard with a quick left and then followed him to the mat to get the tap-out via rear-naked choke. In five UFC losses, it was Guillard's fifth via submission.

No. 6 came Friday at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn., as part of the UFC's first FX main card. But unlike the Lauzon defeat, which left Guillard an emotional mess, the Miller loss proved easier to stomach.

Guillard (29-10-2 MMA, 10-6 UFC) rocked his opponent early – Miller (21-3 MMA, 10-2 UFC) later admitted he doesn't even really remember much from the fight and was fighting on instinct after an exceptionally jarring punch to the head – but he was wrestled to the mat and choked out with a rear-naked choke. Guillard, whose brash attitude created legions of haters over the years, was noticeably more upbeat, outgoing and exceptionally introspective and insightful leading up to the fight. It carried over even after his defeat.

"To lose to a guy like Jim, I wasn't emotional about this loss like I was for the Lauzon fight because I really feel in my heart the Lauzon fight was a fluke," he said. "I had Jim hurt, and my thing was I wanted to be patient. I just backed off when I probably could have swung. It could have been a different result.

"But I don't regret anything I did tonight. I think I went in and implemented my game. I fought one of the best guys in this division, and I think I sent a message to a lot of guys. But I also understand now everyone's going to want to take my back. Two fights in a row, two good guys took my back."

Guillard, who got his once-troubled career back on track with the help of trainer Greg Jackson, recently left his New Mexico camp to join the "Blackzilians," a ragtag group of MMA misfits who are piecing together a powerhouse team in Florida. Some see it as the nail in the coffin of Guillard's career since the camp is open about its standup-oriented style and high-octane training sessions.

Guillard, though, argues that his ground game is growing by leaps and bounds with the help of fellow Blackzilians such as Gesias "JZ" Cavalcante, Jorge Santiago and countless jiu-jitsu aces.

"Give me about a year," said Guillard, who now trains four times a week in jiu-jitsu-oriented sessions. "Be patient with me, and I'll submit someone.

Besides, he doesn't really see this Miller loss as a failure of his grappling.

"It wasn't a problem," he said. "I did everything right. I knew exactly how to shake him off my back. When he jumped on my back, I was going to go down so I could pull his arm away from my throat, but when he reset and shook me, he collapsed my hip, and I fell down. At that point, I had to try to roll over to the other side. I was sticking to the basics of what I learned."

Some may write off Guillard's grandiose proclamations as delusional. Fans, after all, can be a ruthless bunch. Guillard, though, said potential opponents aren't nearly as combative. In fact, they're downright scared. After all, when it comes to getting fights with anyone not named Frankie Edgar, he and Miller are in the same boat.

"At the end of the day, Jim Miller and I both – you guys make sure you get this right – Jim Miller and I are the two best guys in this division," he said. "Guys don't want to fight us. We're the two guys people run away from. ... Guys aren't lining up to fight Jim and me."

Spoiler:
Veteran fighter Jorge Rivera's mind was made up a long time ago – well before he finally clued in UFC officials.

At Thursday's UFC on FX 1 weigh-ins, he finally told his longtime employers what he had decided nearly three months earlier: Friday's fight with middleweight Eric Schafer would be the last of his career.

Following an impressive second-round TKO victory, 39-year-old "El Conquistador" told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) there'd be no changing his mind.

"It was the start of the camp," he said of his decision. "I had a school opening up, and I was cutting time between training and the school. I saw the future and what I wanted to do and how I wanted to go about it, and I had had enough."

Rivera earned his final win on the preliminary card of Friday's UFC on FX 1 event at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn. It aired on FUEL TV prior to the FX main card.

Rivera, who broke the news of his retirement earlier in the day on MMAjunkie.com Radio, closes out his career on a winning note. An 11-year pro, he made his UFC debut way back in 2003 at UFC 44. He enjoyed four stints with the UFC, including a spot on "The Ultimate Fighter 4" (a "comeback" season featuring former UFC fighter), though his latest was his longest and most fruitful.

It could have been easy for Rivera to call it quits after promotional releases in 2003, 2004 and 2006. But he stuck with it, and his willingness to adapt and evolve – something that many of his contemporaries didn't – kept him in the game long after most fighters' expiration dates.

But with his 40th birthday coming up next month, and with encouragement from his family to call it a wrap, Rivera (20-9 MMA, 8-7 UFC) ultimately decided the timing was right. He said the win over jiu-jitsu ace Schafer (12-7-2 MMA, 3-6 UFC) – who had Rivera in trouble early before wilting to punches in the second round – doesn't provide any real encouragement to stick around for another fight. He's at peace with his decision, and his fighting days are over.

"It wasn't hard a decision at all," he said. "I see some of these guys like (UFC on FX 1 headliners) Melvin (Guillard) and Jim (Miller), and they're young, man. They're no joke. My reflexes are slowing down. I've got a family to take care of, and I don't want to suffer a serious injury that might complicate that.

"I'm very happy with what I've done here, and I'm very happy with what it gave back to me, and it's time to go. I'm happy to be going with a W."

Rivera fought back tears after the event.

"I'm an emotional guy," he joked. "I'm a big baby."

In 20 career wins, the Massachusetts-based fighter owns 14 knockouts. You want to know his favorite memory from his fighting days? Pick any one of them. He loves them all equally.

He just knows he can't get those KOs like he once he did.

"I just came to the realization I'm old and can't do it anymore," he said. "I realized my reflexes were going [with] my speed. It's not working anymore, so it's time to go."

Aside from a co-headlining spot at UFC 127 (in a heated bout with Michael Bisping that he lost), Rivera was never really a big UFC draw. He didn't make the big paydays or earn a cut of PPV revenue. Despite a string of impressive performances, he never earned one of the UFC's customary fight-night bonuses. Sure, he made a good living, but he's not heading into the sunset with bags of money under his arms.

But for a guy like Rivera, that's nothing worth fretting over. He's got his new school, the love of his family, and years of memories from competing on MMA's biggest stage.

"I don't feel the need to be a multimillionaire," he said. "As long as God provides what I need, I'll be content with that."
