i usually look at records on wikipedia or fight wiki for fighters i dont know much about...
cant say it has really helped though because ive been sucking for the last few comps...
perhaps its just the way i interpret the info that causes the problem... *shrugs*

i dont read anything though...
i just look at each guys fights list...
who they fought... how they won or lost etc...
whether theyre on a winning streak or losing streak etc...
but i try to avoid reading anything whenever i can...
