OAKLAND, Calif. – MMAjunkie.com (
www.mmajunkie.com) was on scene and reporting live from today's official UFC 117 fighter weigh-ins, where all but one competitor made weight on the show.
Today's festivities took place at Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif., the same venue that hosts Saturday's pay-per-view event.
Middleweight champ Anderson Silva (184.5 pounds) and fellow headliner Chael Sonnen (185) were on weight, but co-main-event fighter Thiago Alves was a half pound over and fined 20 percent of his purse.
Alves, who's struggled with weight-cutting in the past, weighed 171.5 pounds, a half pound over the 171-pound limit for his No. 1 contender's bout with Jon Fitch. Alves' fine is paid directly to Fitch.
Although reports surfaced earlier this week suggesting Alves was struggling with his weight cut, his manager, Malki Kawa, told MMAjunkie.com that the fighter weighed 177 pounds and expected no problems by the time weigh-ins rolled around.
