NBC will finally made its foray into the world of mixed martial arts in September when it airs its Ultimate Women Challenge MMA reality show.
The show, which was originally scheduled to run last fall, will be hosted by Bas Rutten and model and Dancing with the Stars competitor Joanna Krupa and will feature some new and some recognizable faces in female MMA including Jackson's MMA product Julie Kedzie and American Top Team trained fighter Jessica Aguilar.
Here are the show's 16 participants: Air dates of the show and and its time slot have yet to be announced by NBC, leading me to believe it isn't a lock for the fall, despite the website's statement claiming otherwise.
This wouldn't be the first time NBC passed on MMA programming at the eleventh hour. Last year, Strikeforce was already planning out a weekly show for the network when negotiations broke off and never resumed.
Hopefully the show makes it to air and the ratings prompt NBC president and CEO Jeff Zucker to negotiate a deal with the UFC. He may have to talk to Dana and Co. if he doesn't want to be sued for using the word "Ultimate" in the show's name, especially when it refers to an MMA-related product. I'm pretty sure Zuffa lawyers will slap an injunction on NBC pretty quickly once they catch wind of their TUF-facimile.
