I have to throw my hat in the ring on this one.
Other than his horrendous lack of grappling knowledge (example: constantly confusing triangle choke attempts with arm-bar attempts), Schiavello is by far the most entertaining combat sports commentator on the planet.
His combination of unique abilities to speedily call techniques play-by-play, and insert genuinely funny quips while doing so is amazing.
IMO Joe Rogan is the best MMA commentator that I know of, and I think that largely comes from the fact that his is a very passionate fan, not just a commentator. He is a "fan's commentator", if there is such a thing. His MMA commentary even beats former MMA fighters and now commentators like Bas Rutten, Frank Shamrock, and Guy Metzger IMO.
Digression aside, I lol almost every time Schiavello ties an unexpected quip into his play-by-play ring announcing. I think with the right commentator at his side (someone who is passionate about and knows MMA intimately) - (Schiavello + Rogan = The MMA commentary "Dream Team"?), he is always welcome to commentate MMA events that I watch.
