Former UFC fighter Tyson Griffin has signed a multi-fight deal with World Series of Fighting.

Griffin (16-6) today announced the deal via Twitter.

A debut date isn't set, but Griffin said he plans to fight in late summer.

"I hope to be on the august WSOF card & can't wait to put on the most exciting fight the @WSOFfans have ever seen!!" he wrote.

Griffin, 28, once was one of the brightest stars in the UFC's competitive lightweight division. He made his promotional debut in 2006 and won seven of his first nine fights. The stretch included a staggering five "Fight of the Night" bonuses and wins over notables such as Clay Guida, Thiago Tavares and Rafael dos Anjos.

However, the UFC ultimately cut ties with him in late 2011 after a 1-4 stretch that included a short stint at featherweight.

Griffin, who now trains with American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, returned from a 13-month layoff in November and scored a decision victory over fellow UFC vet Efrain Escudero at RFA 4.

WSOF, which features a mixture of proven veterans and top prospects, recently held its second show. Its third is slated for June 14 in its home city of Las Vegas. It airs on NBC Sports Network.
