Post subject:  Building new PC

My current PC farted so now I'm looking for new parts.

I'd be grateful to hear some suggestions on Motherboard and Processor combos.

I'm tight on money and I use PC only for encoding and games I play aren't visually demanding so my 512 mb card should still work fine.
I'll probably have to get new RAM as well since I have full house of DDR2 lying around but new boards are DDR3.

Ideally I'd like to buy new case but since I have 500$ budget MB and Processor are priorities, everything else will have to wait for better days.

One solution is to get all parts from last gen. QuadCore, DDR2 etc. The parts cost nothing compared to the new iCores and ddr3. For your purposes the performance more then enough.
I would say an old MB with 4 gb ddr2 ram and a quad core qould be similar to an i3-i5 without doubt, and you can make it even better then those if you get a good hdd etc.

It will defenitely save you a lot of cash. Not the ideal solution, we all want i7 with 16 GB ddr3 ram but we cant all drive a Ferraris for some reason.

If you want new parts, get cheap asus mb, and 4 gb ram minimum and i5 or i7.

Anybody got any other ideas?

If i was looking to buy new pc componets id buy the new Intel Sandy bridge processor. Maybe http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819115074 and maybe this Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813130571 . If you do buy an sandy bridge processor make sure you get a motherboard the rev 3.0 or B3.

Miz, you may want to check this out - http://www.geforce.com/#/Optimize/Guides/how-to-build-a-kick-ass-crysis-2-pc-for-under-600?cid=GTX550Ti_Launch_Email I'm not sure what shipping cost would be for where you are, but it might help at least with giving you a few ideas of where to start.

Best of luck,

Any of the items above can be replaced by an upgraded part as long as it compatible. Cpu can be i5 or i7 just as well and you can add more ram, hdd etc, but as a cheap basic PC that you can do basicly anything on it isnt a bad deal. To play latest games and watch HD video upgrade videocard to a 400 series Nvidia.
