I've not seen much of houston alexander, so does anyone think that cutting him might be a bit premature? Or is the light heavyweight division so stacked that they needed any excuse to thin it out? Has houston alexander had his shot already?

From what i remember he lost some fight in UFC or was never able to fight and then got permission to fight on another promotors event and won that fight and then this was his chance to continue in the UFC but Dana was not impressed and decided to cut him.

Maybe a little premature but I guess he thought that if he cant beat Kimbo hes not going to beat the other guys in his weightclass either.

If Kimbo shows to be a really good contender maybe they will regret it but if Kimbo gets defeated in his next performances he will probably also be out of UFC as soon as his contract is over.

Lets hope Kimbo wins a couple of fights and learns and trains hard to improove his cardio and ground game, he sure looked better on the ground in the fight but he was gassed in third round and thats not a good sign, but thats nothig he cant work on right :)

Being gassed in round three is something that all fighters have trouble with. Being in the cage for 10 minutes, especially if you're grappling, must be so exausting.

You're right. He can work on his cardio. Even better is when he feels more comfortable with his ground game. If he's less afraid of being taken down then he can really let his hands fly, and finish the fight a long time before round 3! :D

More than anything else (like Dana says in the video) it was the manner/performance Alexander showed during the fight that got him cut. Everyone was expecting a brawl, punches flying, and then Alexander getting Kimbo in a Thai clinch and kneeing him until he knocked him out. Perhaps some of the leg kicks he showed during his Pendergast fight (the last one - outside the UFC). Nope. Nothing. All but one or two of the kicks were weak and there was no real attempt to voluntarily stand and bang.

Alexander made his big impression on fans with two huge knockouts of good guys after sick aggression and huge close-quarter punches, and if he'd come out and done that in the Kimbo fight - win or lose - I don't think he'd have been cut. The guy just looked seriously wary of being taken down at all times in his last few fights because he is so poor on the ground... even against Kimbo. Much as I hate to see him go, it is the right call to cut him - he can't be competitive in the UFC now because no-one is going to stand in front of him; they're just going to shoot, take him down easily, win the fight. Maybe in time he can learn better defense and ground and come back. But I doubt it.
