Thanks for the info. I can usually get good speeds - especially upload - but I frequently suffer badly from router choking. Hopefully this will help. Noticed the max.halfopen is set to 400 by default, so dropping to 8 should make some noticeable difference, surely?

I cant say that I am an expert on the matter but it seems you are making a significant change so I guess you should notice the difference in performance.

correct me if I'm wrong but xp only allows 8 half open connection and vista and win7 allows I think 10 but could be 8 also but usually you can find patches to increase to 50 but of course if you have windows server os then it's unlimited. The routers too many connection crash cheap routers I know my router limits allowed connections to 250. I use linux and has unlimited connection as well but still limited by the router
