Is it acceptable to up one's ratio using donations only? Or would this be considered breaking the rules?

If my ratio is above 1, would "hit and quit" still be an issue? Content that I want does not have many people downloading, hence the question.

Yes it is.
We have some users from countries with very bad internet connection.
So seeding for GBs doesn't really work for them.

Paying for membership is an acceptable alternative.
They are still helping the community just in a different way. ;)



I guess if your ratio is above 1 it would be OK to do that sometimes.
If your ratio is bellow 1 then it is not OK.

But I must tell you: One of the best ways to increase your ratio is to seed the torrents that "do not have many people downloading".
I'm personally seeding some trackers that have only 1 or 2 seeders.
And that category of tracker gives me a LOT of GBs over time.
Exactly because I am the only one seeding...!

Like if I'm seeding popular packs like Dannaher's or Ryan's stuff...
I will personally send only a small % of the pack to each leecher.
But if I'm the only one seeding I will send 100% of the pack.
You just gotta be patient. ;)

Oh yeah...
One more thing:
If you choose the option to "Pay for Membership" instead of Seeding.
You do not need to worry about your "Ratio".
Because "VIP rank" that is awarded when you donate gives you immunity to being auto-banned.

For example if you donate 50$ you will get 11 months "VIP rank".
Meaning for this 11 months your ratio can drop to >0.4 and you won't get banned.
You just need to remember to donate again before the 11 months expires. (because you will get banned without the VIP)
And you can keep doing this forever. ;)
