Post subject: | 'Mayhem' Miller not your ordinary fighter or TV host |
He's the host of MTV's Bully Beatdown, a showman with a flair for flamboyant dances, a Twitter devotee who enjoys debating faith and reason, a writer and a radio host. Jason "Mayhem" Miller also would like U.S. audiences to know he's a fighter. He takes on Jake Shields for Strikeforce's middleweight title Nov. 7 in a made-for-CBS card headlined by heavyweights Fedor Emelianenko and Brett Rogers (9 p.m. ET). FULL Q&A: Miller on dancing, fighting, MMA and MTV Miller has been doing most of his recent fighting in Japan, where he enjoys the sophisticated crowds and the freedom to do extravagant entrances. He hasn't fought in the USA since MTV introduced him to an audience beyond the hardcore fans. "They're going to know I'm not just a television host, I'm also a world-class fighter," Miller says. "It's going to be exciting to show that to everybody." Miller is 22-6, with notable wins against Robbie Lawler and Denis Kang. He fought once in the UFC, a 2005 loss to Georges St. Pierre, and has no interest in going back, saying the UFC is too restrictive on outside activities such as Bully Beatdown, which features non-UFC fighters (including Shields) beating up "bullies" nominated by their victims. But Miller has limits to his non-fighting work. Despite claims made in the past, he says he was never a backup dancer for New Kids on the Block. "I just made that up," Miller says. "I said that because people were asking me so many times why I make up dances for my entrance, and that was the reason I gave." http://www.usatoday.com/sports/mma/2009 ... yhem_N.htm |
