Background

The event will be headlined by a UFC Welterweight Championship bout between current champion Tyron Woodley and Darren Till. Due to a nasal issue that required surgery, the interim champion Colby Covington was not available for this event. He is also expected to be stripped of his title as soon as the Woodley/Till bout takes place. The Ultimate Fighter: American Top Team vs. Blackzilians welterweight winner Kamaru Usman submitted medicals and weighed in as an official replacement for the bout.

A UFC Women's Flyweight Championship bout between then champion Nicco Montaño and former UFC Women's Bantamweight Championship title challenger Valentina Shevchenko was expected to take place at the event, as the co-headliner. However, before the weigh-ins, Montaño was transported to a hospital due to the effects of weight cutting and the title bout with Shevchenko was cancelled. Later that day, UFC president Dana White announced that Montaño was stripped of the title and that Shevchenko will fight for the vacant belt "as soon as she's able".

A featherweight bout between The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America featherweight winner Yair Rodríguez and Zabit Magomedsharipov was scheduled for the event. However, Rodríguez pulled out of the fight on August 23 citing injury. He was replaced by Brandon Davis.

Ryan Benoit was scheduled to face Roberto Sanchez at the event. However, Benoit pulled out of the fight in late August for undisclosed reasons and was replaced by Jarred Brooks.

Rivera-Dodson is a great matchup on the prelims there.

For the main my guess is Woodley will use his wrestling to take down the much bigger Darren Till.

@richMMA - You do understand that Darren would be absolutely fine with being taken down. His ground game is absolutely fantastic. It is just very very hard to even get in on him, as his takedown defense is impeccable. Those legs of his are crazy quick, and long at that. But, he's able to pull them in quickly and do those short kicks and knees when people shoot in on him, and at angles at that. I honestly have no idea who is going to Win this one. I hope Till wins, as I just think he has the more skill and is the more exciting fighter. But Woodley has that power, and will definitely see Till's chin get tested. This will absolutely be the toughest fight of Till's career. But, I think after how well he did against Stephen Thompson, no matter what anyone thinks. ( I mean I scored that fight 4 rounds to 1 in Till's favor, but hey thats me, and to be generous to Thompson, you could of said 3-2 in favor of Till, but there was in no way that Thompson remotely even came close to winning. No matter how many people complained.)
And if he can do that to Thompson, who Woodley struggled with Twice. Then I believe Till may just walk away with this one. We will see.

What??? You gotta be kidding me. Haven't read the article yet, but that means the title will become vacant, as she hasn't defended in almost 2 years, her contract is up and Dana even said she would have to give it up if she didn't take on Valentina Shevchenko. Only reason she even took the fight finally in the first place. I mean, she literally hasn't fought since she won the Title on the TUF finales. This is ridiculous. Montano is a joke.

Edit: I guess it only been a year. But damn, she keeps turning down fights. I know for a fact this will be the 4th title defense she wanted to turn down, but had to take or Dana was going to strip her. Now she couldn't make weight. The weight cut puts her in the hospital because her fat ass sat around not training for almost a year, and she wonders why. If your a UFC Champion you should literally be able to take a fight on in 2 weeks notice. You should be at the top of your Game like Valentina Shevchenko. That woman is constantly ready to take on a fight and is always in fighting shape. She never stops working out, never stops being at the right weight. You need to stay in the state of mind or you lose that hunger to stay on top. Montano is the perfect example of someone who should of never been Champion in the first place.

Yeah I agree that it is really bad, but Ill wait and see what unfolds before I judge too much. Still in my humble opinion I think UFC has to take a look at the rules and find something they can use to prevent these kind of things. Say if you dont defend the title twice in a year you loose it or whatever they can come up with. To be a champ you need to fight more then the rest imho. Not less.
