'The Smashing Machine' to replace Frye against 'King' Mo August 11, 2009 source: http://www.mmaunltd.com/news-detail.asp ... ousasi.htm M-1 Breakthrough has changed it's venue and headline event and presentd a Fedor vs. Mousasi exhibition on August 28th There had been some confusion regarding the M-1 Breakthrough event but it is now official that the event has been moved from Los Angeles to the Memorial Hall in Kansas City. The headline bout between Don Frye and Mohammed Lawal has also been changed with Frye citing reasons regarding the venue change as his issue. M-1 Global Chief Operating Officer Joost Raimond stated that it shouldn't have been an issue but all parties are happy with the replacement. “Don Frye had a signed contract with M-1 and part of that signed commitment allowed us to change the venue if needed. From our perspective, Don should still be in this fight. However, for reasons that we aren’t exactly sure of, he has backed out. Don still has not provided us with a clear reason as to why he is refusing to fight. We’ve heard rumors that he wasn’t happy with the location change." He also challenged the integrity of Frye, claiming he may have been looking for an excuse to duck 'King' Mo. "It just doesn’t make sense because the old Don Frye was willing to fight anyone, anywhere, and at anytime. Perhaps the fire is gone and he underestimated the challenge that ‘King Mo’ presents." While the organisation are trying to push the fight with Kerr as a legitimate test, in reality Kerr hasn't been a top level fighter for years but he still carries name value and it should excite the fans that have been following the sport since 'The Smashing Machine's' glory days. They have also announced that the world's top heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko will face off in an exhibition match with Gegard Mousasi with fans expecting a similar showcase to the one with Shinya Aoki at a previous event. M-1 Global: Breakthrough is on the 28th of August at the Memorial Hall in Kansas City. |
