UFC veteran Jacob Volkmann will square off with former Strikeforce talent Lyle Beerbohm in a lightweight showdown at WSOF 3.
Volkmann recently announced the booking on Twitter, and Sherdog.com on Tuesday confirmed the pairing with a World Series of Fighting official. WSOF 3 takes place June 14 at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and is headlined by a welterweight rematch between Jon Fitch and Josh Burkman. The evening’s main card airs live on NBC Sports Network.
Volkmann, 32, has lost two of his last three fights. Following back-to-back losses at 170 pounds, the Minnesotan kicked off his lightweight stint with five straight UFC victories before submitting to a Paul Sass triangle-armbar 11 months ago. Though the grinding wrestler would rebound from the loss with a submission win over Shane Roller, Volkmann was bested in his most recent outing, tapping to a Bobby Green rear-naked choke on Feb. 2 at UFC 156.
Beerbohm, meanwhile, has won six straight fights on the local circuit after receiving his Strikeforce release in 2011 on the heels of consecutive defeats to Pat Healy and Shinya Aoki. “Fancy Pants” competed four times last year and has already fought twice in 2013, most recently stopping fellow Washingtonian Justin Larsson on March 30 under the Northwest Fighting banner.
