As expected, a 105-pound women's title fight headlines Invicta Fighting Championships' third event.
The promotion today announced that Jessica Penne (9-1) and Naho Sugiyama (8-0) will vie for the promotion's inaugural atomweight championship in Invicta FC 3's main event.
"Invicta FC 3: Penne vs. Sugiyama" takes place Oct. 6 at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan. Broadcast plans for the event, which features a total of 13 bouts, haven't been announced.
Tickets for the event go on sale soon.
Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp previously told MMAjunkie.com that she was also considering a runoff with bantamweights who were victorious at the second event to meet Sara McMann for the inaugural bantamweight championship.
Invicta FC 3's main card features the return of Shayna Baszler (14-7), who headlined this past month's event and narrowly lost a decision to McMann. She takes on fellow Strikeforce vet Sara D'Alelio (6-2).
Also featured is former BodogFIGHT women's champion Tara Larosa (21-2), who boasts an impressive 21-2 record and has long been ranked at the top of the sport. She meets fellow vet Vanessa Porto (14-5).
Additionally, Strikeforce vets Michelle Waterson (9-3), Julia Budd (3-2) and Elaina Maxwell (7-4) are confirmed.
A six-bout preliminary-card includes Carla Esparza (7-2) Lynn Alvarez (5-2) in a flyweight bout; Ashley Cummins (3-0) vs. Joanne Calderwood (3-0) at super flyweight (125 pounds); Amy Davis (3-3) vs. Stephanie Frausto (3-4) at atomweight; Jessamyn Duke (1-0) vs. Marciea Allen (1-0) at bantamweight; Tecia Torres (0-0) vs. Kaiyana Rain (0-0) at flyweight; and Katalina Malungahu (2-0) vs. Taylor Stratford (0-0) at featherweight.
