Slowly but surely Strikeforce has built themselves a very respectable heavyweight division most notably consisting of Fedor Emelianenko, Alistair Overeem, Fabricio Werdum, Josh Barnett, Andrei Arlovski, Antonio Silva, Sergei Kharitonov and Brett Rogers. Some would argue it rivals or even tops the UFC’s heavyweight division. Whether that’s case or not is up for debate, but the key difference between the two divisions is the UFC’s heavyweights are fighting each other on a much more consistent basis. To further illustrate that point, here’s the full list of heavyweight fights the two organizations have televised or plan to televise this year as compiled by MMA Fighting’s MDS.
Strikeforce in chronological order:
* Herschel Walker vs. Greg Nagy * Bobby Lashley vs. Wes Sims * Lavar Johnson vs. Lolohea Mahe * Alistair Overeem vs. Brett Rogers * Antonio Silva vs. Andrei Arlovski * Fabricio Werdum vs. Fedor Emelianenko * Shane Del Rosario vs. Lolohea Mahe * Chad Griggs vs. Bobby Lashley * Lavar Johnson vs. Virgil Zwicker * Herschel Walker vs. TBA
UFC in chronological order:
* Junior dos Santos vs. Gilbert Yvel * Mirko Cro Cop vs. Anthony Perosh * Cain Velasquez vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira * Cheick Kongo vs. Paul Buentello * Junior dos Santos vs. Gabriel Gonzaga * Shane Carwin vs. Frank Mir * Roy Nelson vs. Stefan Struve * Matt Mitrione vs. Kimbo Slice * Mike Russow vs. Todd Duffee * Ben Rothwell vs. Gilbert Yvel * Mirko Cro Cop vs. Pat Barry * Travis Browne vs. James McSweeney * Brendan Schaub vs. Chris Tuchscherer * Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin * Stefan Struve vs. Christian Morecraft * Junior dos Santos vs. Roy Nelson * Randy Couture vs. James Toney * Sean McCorkle vs. Mark Hunt * Matt Mitrione vs. Joey Beltran * Frank Mir vs. Mirko Cro Cop * Cheick Kongo vs. Travis Browne * Brendan Schaub vs. Gabriel Gonzaga * Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez * Stefan Struve vs. Sean McCorkle
Strikeforce may have a comparable roster of heavyweights, but clearly they have some catching up to do in the actual fight booking department. Not one of their key heavyweights are booked to fight before the end of the year, and that’s not going to change. Scott Coker appeared on Sherdog radio yesterday and said their heavyweights are all going to fight each other in 2011.
“One thing I can tell you is all these guys … Alistair, Fedor, Fabricio, Josh Barnett, ‘Bigfoot’ (Antonio Silva), (Sergei) Kharitonov, Andrei Arlovski, Brett Rogers, all those guys are all going to fight each other in 2011,” Coker said. “We’re not going to hold anything back. You’re going to see these guys fight the toughest guys because really, if you’re a heavyweight, there are no easy fights in Strikeforce. It’s arguably the best heavyweight division in the world, and I think Josh Barnett said it best. The competition is here. He signed with us because he wants to fight all those guys. We’re going to put those fights together, and I think the fans are going to love it.”
Unfortunately, Coker didn’t offer any specific details such as match-ups, but he did hint at an announcement in the next month or so once they finally figure out what’s going on with Fedor. In the meantime, they’re supporting their heavyweight champion in his quest to capture a K-1 world title and giving Werdum plenty of time to recover from elbow surgery so he comes back 100%.

Scott coker calls exactly 8 names, which could make for a 3 round tournament. so I hope he thought about it that way, because otherwise it will get just as sloppy as this year. But I think coker ain't that smart, so perhaps he just does 1 or two good fights and then puts his guys on the shelf again for 9 months. but there surely is a lot of good oppurtunity for exciting fights

A tourney would be sweet. I want to see some more Del Rosario fights i like that guy. For a Muay Thai champ he has a decent ground game, not to many HWs pull off wins with a omaplata. They just need to start matchiung these guys up because it is sad to have so much wasted talent fighting less then stellar match-ups.
