Post subject: | Dana White: Don't expect to see Paul Daley back in the UFC |
No matter how successful Paul Daley may be in outside organizations, don't expect him back in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Daley, a British striker who fought three times under the UFC banner, hit opponent Josh Koscheck with a post-fight punch at UFC 113 and immediately received his walking papers. And though the UFC and president Dana White famously have given some second chances to fighters, don't expect Daley to get one of them. "That ain't happening, brother," White told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) after Saturday's UFC 118 event in Boston. Daley actually was a victory away from top contender's status, coaching duties on "The Ultimate Fighter 12," a title shot with champion Georges St-Pierre. With all of that riding on the line in the co-main-event fight, Daley clearly became frustrated as the fight wore on. In the striker vs. wrestler matchup, Koshceck kept the fight grounded for much of the 15 minutes and ultimately posted a shutout (30-27) decision victory. After the horn, Daley threw the punch, which drew boos and a quick confrontation from referee Dan Miragliotta. "He's done," White said after the event. "I don't give a [expletive] if he's the best 170-pounder in the world. ... I don't care if he fights in every show all over the world and becomes the best and everybody thinks he's the best pound-for-pound best in the world. He will never fight in the UFC ever again. He's done." Three months later, White hasn't softened his stance. "I know there's a lot of people that are fans," White said. "Dude, that was one of the – I don't even know how to put a word on what that kid did. 'You just had a chance to fight him for 15 minutes, and now you're going to suckerpunch him after the fight?' "It's disgusting. I hate that. I have no respect for that whatsoever. I know some people out there disagree with me, but this is a sport. There's a lot of things that I'm lenient about, but to walk up and suckerpunch a guy in the face that you just had 15 minutes with?" The Quebec Athletic Commission ultimately handed down a 30-day suspension to Daley (24-9-2), which has about the same effect of a three-day suspension for a Major League Baseball starting pitcher. (In other words, it has no effect.) Before the suspension, Daley submitted Daniel Acacio at a July Impact FC event in Australia. And next month, he fights notable Jorge Masvidal on the pay-per-view portion of Shark Fights 13. White, of course, has mended fences with everyone from Tito Ortiz to B.J. Penn to Randy Couture. And even this past weekend at UFC 118, Gabe Ruediger – who famously flamed out of "The Ultimate Fighter 5" after failing to make weight on the reality show – returned as an injury-replacement fighter and got a second chance with the organization. But White feels Daley simply crossed too big of a line. "When you're a fighter, and the fight ends and you're walking around calming down and relaxing, the last thing you expect to do is get punched in the face by someone," he said. "It's disgusting. I hate it." Source: http://mmajunkie.com/news/20478/dana-wh ... he-ufc.mma |
