Fresh from having his heart broken by the world’s best 185-pound fighter, Chael Sonnen once again discussed his nearly-flawless performance against UFC middleweight king Anderson Silva and his desire to remain in the division. “I picked a fight with the toughest guy out there. I’m not a bully, I don’t go pick fights with somebody that I think I could beat,” Sonnen said on Fighting Words with Mike Straka. There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that Sonnen had the highly anticipated title fight well in hand going into the 5th round, but a mental mistake cost him his lifelong dream of becoming a world champion and UFC 117 turned out to be his biggest nightmare. Although he has previously joked about bouncing between divisions to improve his chances of capturing a title, the Team Quest trained fighter now has his eyes set on only one 12-pound belt. “I can go up to 205 [pounds] and take that belt without breaking a sweat. I don’t want it, I want the bully of the playground. I want the one that everybody else is scared of,” Sonnen boldly stated. He also shed light on the confusion at the conclusion of his instant classic with Silva. While it appeared the referee was quite decisive in making the stoppage, he wasn’t as vibrant in explaining to the fighters the contest was over. “It was the right stoppage. Josh [Rosenthal] woke me up to let me know the fight was over.
