The Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale card received one additional fight while dropping another, and the total number of official contests for the June 19 event in Las Vegas remains at five. The rest, of course, will be revealed following this week's conclusion of the Spike TV reality series, "The Ultimate Fighter 11." But for now, a previously reported contest of John Gunderson vs. Mark Holst is official, while MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has learned that a previously announced matchup of Darren Elkins vs. Charles Oliveira has been shifted to UFC on Versus 2 in August. Holst (8-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC), an Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, native, recently derailed UFC veteran Corey Hill's comeback with a second-round submission victory. It was Holst's third consecutive win. Holst currently teaches and trains at the Ottawa Academy of Martial Arts. His lone career blemish is a knockout loss to Canadian veteran Martin Grandmont this past March. Gunderson (22-7 MMA, 0-1 UFC), an IFL and Palace Fighting Championship veteran, made his UFC debut in January after a 5-1 run (with four submission victories) in a variety of promotions. Gunderson, though, suffered a decision loss to Rafaello Oliveira in a UFC 108 preliminary-card bout. Gunderson is now likely in a must-win situation if he hopes to remains in the UFC. Meanwhile, the Elkins vs. Oliveira matchup was delayed due to visa issues according to sources close to the Brazilian UFC newcomer. Elkins (12-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC), a former Indiana state high-school wrestling champion, scored a victory over veteran Duane "Bang" Ludwig down in the first round of their meeting at UFC on Versus 1 in March. Elkins, who was making his UFC debut, shattered Ludwig's ankle during a takedown attempt and scored the TKO win due to the injury. Elkins fought throughout the Midwest prior to his UFC deal and scored victories over notables such as Pat Curran and Gideon Ray. Oliveira (12-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC), who trains with Gold Team USA in Houston when not in Sao Paulo, Brazil, most recently took home a pair of wins during a one-night MMA tournament held at Warrior's Challenge in Porto Belo, Santa Catarina, Brazil. The Ring of Combat and Warriors Challenge vet has posted stoppage wins in 11 of his 12 career wins. Source: www.mmajunkie.com |
