Background
The event was announced by WEC President Reed Harris on the Dave and Mahoney Show. Reed also stated his hope to charge $44.95 for his company's inaugural PPV broadcast.
Jamie Varner was expected to face Kamal Shalorus, but that bout has been called off due to an injury sustained by Shalorus.
A bout between Alex Karalexis and Zach Micklewright was due to take place, but Micklewright suffered a broken ankle. Mickelwright was later replaced by Anthony Pettis.
Antonio Banuelos was scheduled to face Damacio Page at the event, but Page was forced off the card with an injury. Banuelos will now face Scott Jorgensen in a rematch of their bout from WEC 41 which Banuelos won via split decision.
Cub Swanson was scheduled to face WEC newcomer Chan Sung Jung, but Swanson was forced from the card with an injury. He will be replaced by Leonard Garcia.
Mackens Semerzier was scheduled to face Anthony Morrison, but Semerzier was forced from the card with an injury. Morrison will now face Chad Mendes.
Veteran UFC commentators Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan will handle broadcast duties for the event and Bruce Buffer will be handling the fighter introductions.
Two of the nights prelim fights will air live on Spike TV much like the UFC's events.
