UFC's Stephan Bonnar steps in for Frank Mir in WEC 47 commentator role

Cast member of "The Ultimate Fighter" and 11-time UFC veteran Stephan Bonnar will take over for former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir in the the "WEC 47: Bowles vs. Cruz" commentating booth this weekend.

MMAjunkie.com today confirmed the change to the Versus broadcast team with WEC officials.

Mir is understandably busy as he prepares for a UFC 111 interim title fight with Shane Carwin, which led to the change. WEC officials insisted that Mir's recent controversial statements regarding Brock Lesnar – and subsequent apology – had nothing to do with the change.

Mir is expected to return to the booth for April's "WEC 48: Aldo vs. Faber," which marks the WEC's first time on pay-per-view.

Bonnar has some previous broadcasting experience as a guest host of ESPN.com's "MMA Live" program, and he previously worked as a color commentator during the UFC's pay-per-view broadcast of UFC 59.

Featuring a bantamweight title fight between current champ Brian Bowles and top contender Dominick Cruz, WEC 47 takes place March 6 at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The full lineup includes:

Awesome, I don't think much of Bonnar as a fighter, but he is a cool guy.

Might be good for Frank to get some time off and concentrate on his training camp.

I dont dislike him as a commentator and I must say I have heard Joe say the f word a couple of times even if he usually is really fast and stops after the fuh.. and says freaking or something. Thats a pro!
