Background

Fight week is upon up in the capital! The countdown is on for Cage Warriors London, and one of the most densely packed cards in recent memory. No fewer than two title fights will entertain a packed out indigo at The O2 next Saturday night, and if that’s not enough, we here there’s an Epidemic in the air.

Two title fights and one of the most anticipated returns in recent memory sit atop a stacked Saturday night bill. Explosive up and comer Elton Armindo looks to strike while the iron is hot, facing the bantamweight division’s heir apparent, PrizeFighter king Shirzad Qadrian over five rounds for the vacant 135lb title.

In a recent addition to the card, Brazilian buzzsaw Caique ‘The Dark’ Araujo steps up to replace Nik Bagley, looking to make the most of an incredible opportunity at featherweight gold. He faces Ireland’s Solomon Simon.

The King of the indigo, Jordan Vucenic is back in the Famous Yellow Gloves, putting everything on the line against Torpal Merjoev in a lightweight banger.

The return of former featherweight king Jordan Vucenic against the surging Norwegian phenom Torpal Merjoev.

Vucenic, a 13-4 veteran from Corby still shy of his 30th birthday, brings a lifetime of cage time—nearly 150 fights across amateur and pro ranks. His game is complete: fluid, vicious striking with a pace that never dips, and a submission arsenal that has ended his last three indigo appearances and his title-winning effort against James Hendin. He wants gold again and a ticket back to the UFC.

Across the cage waits 21-year-old Merjoev, undefeated in seven professional bouts and fresh off a statement debut in the yellow gloves. Built low and dense at five-foot-eight, he barrels into clinches, drags foes to the mat, and unleashes ground-and-pound savage enough to force referees to intervene. Those who survive the onslaught still face his choke game, as Teddy Stringer learned the hard way in June.

The matchup was born from misfortune and perfect timing. Merjoev had been slated to face Ieuan Davies in Manchester until the Welshman withdrew days after the announcement. Meanwhile, Vucenic’s re-signing and desire to fight on the 15th hit the wires. One phone call later, a promotional headache became the year’s most intriguing lightweight collision.

Vucenic will not want this fight on the canvas against a wrestler who treats the top position like a demolition site. Merjoev must prove his debut fireworks were no fluke against a division icon. The lightweight title picture sits wide open, and Saturday night’s victor will stride straight into it.

In another late addition, Bruno Guimaraes will face Tariq Pell at a catchweight of 161lbs, while CW favourites Jawany Scott and Ollie Sarwa take on Michelangelo Lupoli and Tuomas Grönvall respectively.
