Background
ACA 189: Bagov vs. Abdulvakhabov 4... A Rivalry Reignited!
The cage is set for one of the most heated rivalries in ACA history as Ali Bagov and Abdul-Aziz Abdulvakhabov meet for the fourth time, this time with the Lightweight Championship on the line.
Ali Bagov, the enigmatic grappling ace from Russia, brings his unorthodox style and submission mastery back to the spotlight. With over 30 finishes in his career, Bagov is as unpredictable as he is dangerous. Known for his blunt persona and relentless ground game, he’s looking to even the score and reclaim the belt.
Across from him stands Abdul-Aziz Abdulvakhabov, the reigning lightweight king and one of ACA’s most respected champions. Hailing from Chechnya, Abdulvakhabov’s well-rounded arsenal and championship composure have carried him to multiple title defenses and victories over top contenders — including Bagov himself.
With the series standing at 2-1 for Abdulvakhabov, this is more than a title fight. It’s a legacy battle between two of ACA’s most storied warriors — and this time, only one will leave as champion.
The tournament ACA 189, which will be held on July 11 in Grozny, will be dedicated to the memory of three-time Olympic champion in freestyle wrestling Buvaisar Saitiev, ACA President Magomed Bibulatov said.
The main event of the ACA 189 will be the title fight in lightweight. Abdul-Aziz Abdulvahabov will defend his title in a duel with Ali Bagov.
For Abdulvahabov, this will be the fourth defense of the title of ACA, which he won in 2020 in a fight against Alexander Sarnavsky and three times successfully defended him in fights against Hakran Diaz, Muhammad Kokov and Ali Abdulhalakov.
35-year-old Ali Bagov, nicknamed “Hulk” won 2 victories on the way to the final of the Grand Prix. In the first round, Bagov finished Artem Reznikov by technical knockout, and in the semifinals defeated Daud Shaykhaev by unanimous decision of the judges
At stake in the confrontation on July 11, in addition to the championship belt, the title of the winner of the Grand Prix will stand.
It is noteworthy that for Abdulvahab and Bagov, the match on June 11 will be the fourth meeting in the cage. In 2014 and 2016, Abdul-Aziz won two early victories, and the third confrontation in 2018 Bagov won by the decision of the judges.
The ACA 189 tournament will be held in Grozny at the Uvais Akhtaev Volleyball Palace, the entrance will be free for spectators.
