Silva-Maia Set for UFC 112 Demian Maia has agreed to step in for an injured Vitor Belfort and will meet middleweight champion Anderson Silva at UFC 112 on April 10 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, the promotion announced on Friday. Belfort underwent shoulder surgery this week for a chronic injury that had worsened in the last few months and expects a minimum four-month recovery. Maia earned a unanimous decision against Dan Miller at UFC 109 last Saturday in Las Vegas. The 32-year-old Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt has only one loss on his docket -- a sobering 21-second knockout at the hands of fellow contender Nate Marquardt at UFC 102 last August. UFC 112 will also offer a lightweight title bout between B.J. Penn and Frankie Edgar, as well as a featured welterweight matchup between former champion Matt Hughes and Renzo Gracie. Zuffa, the UFC’s parent company, recently sold a 10-percent stake to Flash Entertainment, an Abu Dhabi-based event management company that specializes in concerts, cultural and sport events and more. http://www.sherdog.com/news/news/Silva- ... -112-22623 |

I guess there is a pretty big risk, that this fight will be like when Silva fought Leites. |

What a total mess they have made of the Middleweight division. Giving Vitor a title shot over Marquardt and Henderson. Letting Henderson go. Making Marquardt fight Sonnen. And now giving Maia a shot. What a circus. The WWE couldnt even script this shit. |

I prefer this match up to sonnen and fault lays partly with vitor he must have known he needs an op..left it a bit late to have the op. Mardquat didnt have to take the Sonnen fight Jonny could have said no...it showed holes in his game though and he is no challenger for silva. If maia gets it to ground could be interesting though i feel he will get KO'd As for Hendo.. He was asking for too much money dude got 300,000 in total for Bishping fight and then still wanted more.. forget that his record in ufc hasn't been great lost both champ belts (PRIDE mergers) |

Maia is the best of the rest, for sure. I am slightly concerned about the Leites Effect occuring again, but not so sure that Maia will think he is as weak standing up as Leites did for his own skills back then. Having said that, I'm sure Maia would have liked at least one more fight to continue proving his stand-up to himself before getting a shot... And besides, Maia is probably (I'd guess) a marketable name in Abu Dhabi, what with his sucess there in grappling. I'm still very interested in seeing this fight - just ddn't expect is so soon. |

Vitor is a better fighter than both Nate and Hendo, IMHO of course JonnyMuzz wrote: Letting Henderson go. Hendo is on the decline. Once great, not so much any more. He made ridiculous demands that were not in keeping with his talent and draw. The UFC didnt feel the need to meet those demands. JonnyMuzz wrote: Making Marquardt fight Sonnen. Until the fight happened I might have thought the same. Everyone was saying Nate would walk through Sonnen. Nate was 4 to 1 odds on favourite. Sonnen proved a lot of people wrong. Was not only a really good fight, but proved Sonnens standing as a top contender. JonnyMuzz wrote: And now giving Maia a shot. Not sure why you think he shouldnt have a shot. A single freak defeat by a punch (not just the punch but combined with Maia's forward motion) that would have knocked out pretty much anybody in the MW division. JonnyMuzz wrote: What a circus.
