Background

LFA hosts a fascinating Jiu-Jitsu vs. Capoeira showdown in Brazil at LFA 191!

LFA announced that the promotion will return to Brazil at the end of August with a Featherweight Showdown at LFA 191. This will be the eighteenth LFA event to take place in Brazil after the promotion’s international expansion began in the summer of 2021. This will also be the eleventh LFA event to take place in the state of São Paulo, which is Brazil’s most populous state. LFA has also visited the Brazilian states of Rio de Janeiro and Pernambuco.

LFA 191: Prado vs. Lopes takes place Friday, August 30th at the Ginásio do Polvilho in Cajamar, São Paulo, Brazil. The main event will feature a featherweight showdown between Jiu-Jitsu black belt Wellington “Predador” Prado and Capoeira expert Keweny “Leão” Lopes.

“We are excited to bring a highly-anticipated showdown to southeastern Brazil at LFA 191,” stated LFA CEO Ed Soares. “Wellington Prado and Keweny Lopes are second-generation masters in Brazil’s two most famous martial arts. Prado is a Jiu-Jitsu black belt under his father Mestre Tigre, while Lopes is a Contramestre in Capoeira under his father Mestre Solomão. They have both been training in the martial arts since they learned how to walk and have developed into two of Brazil’s most exciting featherweight prospects in MMA. Now the two Paulistas will meet in a fascinating clash of styles when they square off in main event of LFA 191.”

Prado (14-3) is a 24-year-old prospect from the municipality of Itapevi, which is located in the state of São Paulo. It sits in the western part of the Greater São Paulo metro area just 22 miles to the west of the city of São Paulo. The young Paulista is a member of the China Team in the city of São Paulo, which is led by Brazilian MMA veteran Gilmar “China” Sales. Prado and his twin brother Willian are both known as “Predador” due to their aggressive fighting style, which they learned from their father Mestre Tigre. All three men are Jiu-Jitsu black belts with the twin brothers both earning their black belts from their dad. Prado earned the biggest win of his MMA career two summers ago against LFA standout Italo Gomes. The dominant win took place in the main event of LFA 136, when the promotion made its debut in his home state of São Paulo.

Lopes (10-1-1) is a 28-year-old prospect from the municipality of Hortolândia, which is located just 90 minutes up the Rodovia Bandeirantes (SP-348) from Prado’s hometown of Itapevi in the state of São Paulo. The proud Paulista will be making his LFA debut in a long-awaited return to his home state. The man known as “Leão” recently took his talents across the Atlantic Ocean where he won a pair of bouts in Europe. The first win took place in Switzerland in September of last year. He then won a regional title fight in France to kick off the year in January. Overall, Lopes is riding a 10-fight win streak dating back to 2017, but he has not fought in Brazil since 2022. The last time he fought in Brazil, he won a regional title in Rio de Janeiro. Now the exciting Capoeirista and son of Mestre Solomão returns to São Paulo in the most anticipated match of Brazil’s winter season.
