The Fight Week activities of “UWC 51: García vs. Luna”, in conjunction with the celebration of UFC Fight Night 237: Moreno vs. Royval, start on Thursday in both Tijuana and Mexico City. As an additional incentive, both events will be broadcast through the UFC Fight Pass application, which this week will have a 50% discount for new users of the Mixed Martial Arts (AMM) channel.
“We are excited to start our 2024 season this Sunday, February 25, and even more so because the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) requested that date for our start.
“We have been working with the UFC for several years now and about 30 of our fighters have gone to the famous Octagon, simply in Saturday's event almost all the Mexicans in action were with us,” said Alejandro Islas. The president of UWC explained that the event will feature six professional fights, tobe held starting at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, with two championships at stake from the Entram Gym facilities.
The main duel will be for the Bantamweight Championship, where Mahatma “Araña” García (14-10-1), from Spider Bros MMA, from Tepic, Nayarit, will defend the belt against Adrián Luna Martinetti (13-1-0), from Entram Gym, from Guayaquil, Ecuador.
“It will be Mahatma's first defense of the championship he won in November last year, and as it is our season-opening event, the Welterweight Championship, which is currently vacant, will also be at stake.
“This year we will have eight events, apparently all on Sunday, it is one of the things that the UFC asked of us, for logistical reasons we will be at Entram Gym, but there are other venues contemplated for the rest of the year,” commented Islas.
The co-feature will be for the vacant Welter Championship where Carlos “Drago” Camargo (6-2-0), from Lobo Gym, from Los Mochis, Sinaloa, will face Adrián Oviedo (7-3-0), from Río Cuarto, Cordoba Argentina. The weigh-in ceremony for the Ultimate Warrior Challenge Mexico (UWC) function will take place on Saturday, February 24 at Entram Gym, at 11:00 a.m., and the press conference at the same place, but at 12: 30 hours.
“The fighters begin arriving in Tijuana on Thursday, with the weigh-in ceremony and press conference on Saturday, and from there we will support our friends who will be in action in Mexico City.
“Seven UWC graduates, including three former champions, will be in action at the UFC Fight Night, and that fills us with pride, and even Brian Ortega will be in action, who has already accompanied us at events,” Islas stressed.
In Lightweight, the undefeated Eduardo “More” Vázquez Díaz (6-0-0), from Guadalajara, Jalisco, will face Andrés “Bam Bam” Torres (3-4-0), from the 300 MMA team, from El Socorro, Santander, Colombia. While in Flyweight, it will be the UWC debut of Francisco “Canelo” Ramírez (5-3-0), from Lesos Team, from Puebla, Puebla, to face Luis Elías (6-0-0), from Chiclayo, Peru, in the 125-pound qualifier.
