Background

LFA will return to Brazil in September with the Welterweight Championship at LFA 166. This event will take place following UFC on ESPN: Gane vs. Spivak, which will have an early start time in Paris, France. LFA 166 will be the fourth LFA event to be held on a Saturday and it will be the twelfth LFA event to take place in Brazil after the promotion’s international expansion began in the summer of 2021. This will also be the seventh LFA event to take place in the state of São Paulo, which is Brazil’s most populous state. LFA has also visited the Brazilian states of Rio de Janeiro and Pernambuco.

LFA 166: Neto vs. Conrado takes place Saturday, September 2nd at the Ginásio do Polvilho in Cajamar, São Paulo, Brazil. The main event will feature a welterweight title fight between dynamic Brazilian finishers Geraldo Neto and Magnus Conrado.

“We are excited to bring the Welterweight Championship to Brazil at LFA 166,” stated LFA CEO Ed Soares. “The main event will see Geraldo Neto and Magnus Conrado square off for the vacant LFA welterweight title. Neto was originally scheduled to fight Vanilto Antunes for the title in the main event of LFA 162, but Antunes was injured before the fight. Neto will now fight fellow BJJ black belt Magnus Conrado for the title in September.”

Neto (17-6) knew his LFA debut bout against Argemiro Delmandes would have heavy implications riding on the outcome of their bout at LFA 159. He just did not realize how high the stakes were until it was all said and done. Neto came into that bout with a fearsome reputation for his incredible finishing ability and wasted no time displaying his killer instinct by locking in a Rear Naked Choke in the first round. That was the 17th win of his career and 16th coming via stoppage to increase his ferocious finishing rate to just over 94%. More importantly, it secured the man known as “Luan Santana” an LFA title shot. The 32-year-old Mato-Grossense, who trains under UFC and PRIDE veteran Cristiano Marcello at CM System, was set to fight for the title at LFA 162, but now he has the rest of the Brazilian winter to prepare.

Conrado (18-4) is a man that earned his shot at the LFA title on the strength of what he accomplished this past May. This happened when the BJJ black belt traveled to Ekaterinburg, Russia, which is known as “The Capital of the Urals”, to headline the MMA portion of a Russian combat sports event against a surging Russian prospect Ilyas Khamzin. Conrado, who won a fight early in his career in Argentina, was comfortable fighting in enemy territory and doing things the hard way. He also knew leaving a decision in the hands of the judges was not an option. The 28-year-old Norte-Rio-Grandense relied on that past experience fighting away from home. Conrado had submitted his Argentinian opponent in the first round and did the same against his Russian opponent. Now he looks to capture LFA gold.
