Junior Dos Santos vs. Gabriel Gonzaga co-headlines March 21 UFC on Versus event

A heavyweight bout between rising prospect Junior Dos Santos (10-1 MMA, 4-0 UFC) and perennial contender Gabriel Gonzaga (11-4 MMA, 7-3 UFC) is set for the March 21 "UFC on Versus 1: Vera vs. Jones" card.

Sources close to the fighters told MMAjunkie.com (http://www.mmajunkie.com) the fight, which today was confirmed by the UFC, serves as the night's co-headliner. It was first pitched to the fighters last week.

The fight, originally slated for UFC 108, is part of a March 21 card that is the UFC's first show to air on Versus.

The event takes place at the Odeum Colorado (formerly the Broomfield Event Center) in Broomfield, Colo., with a headliner between Brandon Vera and fellow 205-pound contender Jon Jones.

Dos Santos recently stopped UFC newcomer and notable Gilbert Yvel via first-round TKO. The Brazilian has now won five straight fights, all via knockout, which included UFC victories over Fabricio Werdum, Stefan Struve and Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic. "Cigano," who is part of the famed Los Angeles-based Black House team, has never gone to a decision.

Gonzaga, meanwhile, was once arguably the heavyweight division's No. 2 fighter, but back-to-back losses to then-champ Randy Couture and Fabricio Werdum in late 2008/early 2008 set him back. However, he's since rebounded for three wins in a four-fight span. Most recently, he defeated Chris Tuchscherer via first-round TKO at UFC 102, though Gonzaga's accidental (and vicious) low blow greatly slowed the UFC newcomer early in the fight.

Gonzaga vs. Dos Santos was first scheduled for UFC 108 earlier this month, but Gonzaga was forced off the card due to staph infection.

The latest UFC on Versus 1 card now includes:

* Jon Jones vs. Brandon Vera
* Junior Dos Santos vs. Gabriel Gonzaga
* John Howard vs. Anthony Johnson
* Clay Guida vs. Sean Sherk*
* Spencer Fisher vs. Duane "Bang" Ludwig*
* Eliot Marshall vs. Vladimir Matyushenko
* Chase Gormley vs. Brendan Schaub*
