The UFC's 2010 schedule continues to fill, and the promotion is apparently eying another event for the already busy month of March.
MMAjunkie.com has learned from sources close to the organization that the promotion will hold an event on March 31 to serve as a lead-in for the debut episode "The Ultimate Fighter 11."
The event, which will presumably be titled UFC Fight Night 22, is expected to take place in North Carolina, though an exact locale and venue weren't immediately known.
The UFC visited the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, N.C., in December 2008 for "UFC Fight Night 16: Fight for the Troops" in the promotion's first trip to "The Tar Heel State" since "UFC 5: The Return of the Beast," which took place in Charlotte, N.C., in April 1995.
The UFC also visited Charlotte for "UFC 3: The American Dream" in September 1994.
A representative of the North Carolina Boxing Authority, which oversees mixed martial arts in the state, told MMAjunkie.com that the UFC had not yet officially filed a request for the date, but she "understands that they're coming."
The as-yet-unannounced event is expected to air on Spike TV in advance of the debut episode of "The Ultimate Fighter 11," which begins filming later this month. UFC legends and longtime rivals Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz will be featured as opposing coaches in "TUF 11," which begins production later this month.
With UFC Fight Night 21 rumored for the promotion's debut on the Versus network on March 21 and UFC 111 official for March 27 in New Jersey, a March 31 event would represent the UFC's third live event in a 10-day period.
There are currently no rumored fights for the tentatively titled UFC Fight Night 22 event.
