NEW YORK – July 6, 2022 – Combate Global today announced a five-fight Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) lineup for Friday, July 8, on Univision (12 a.m. ET/PT) and TUDN (12 a.m. ET/9 p.m. PT) from Miami, Fla.
In the lightweight (155 pounds) main event, American sensation Enrique “Baby Bull” Gonzalez (12-4) will square off with undefeated Cuban star Angel “Salsa King” Alvarez (5-0).
Fighting out of Valle Flow Striking in Chicago, Ill., the 23-year-old Gonzalez, who originally hails from Laredo, Texas, will make his first Combate Global appearance of 2022, following a banner year in 2021 when he racked up four victories without a single loss, including three consecutive wins in one night to emerge the winner of a one-night, eight-man lightweight tournament last November 12.
Like Gonzalez, Alvarez, a 27-year-old resident of Miami and native of Cuban capital city Havana, went unbeaten in 2021 over the course of three fights, including his Combate Global promotional debut on October 22, 2021, when he defeated Gerrick Bontekoe by way of unanimous decision.
Alvarez is coming off a second round (3:04) TKO (punches) of Daniel Sanchez Vazquez at Combate Global’s first event of the year on March 24.
In a featured lightweight bout, Alfrego “Tarzan” Ruelas (3-2) of Mexico City, Mexico will take on Simone Serra (3-2) of Barcelona, Spain.
Making her first start of 2022, 23-year-old Alitzel Mariscal (2-2) of Zapopan, Jal., Mexico will face off with Shannon Goughary (5-7) of Nashville, Tenn.
In a women’s atomweight (105 pounds) preliminary bout, Chrisoula Koukouvetakis (3-1) of Salt Lake City, Utah will make her Combate Global debut against fellow promotional newcomer Katherine Perez (2-2) of Cullowhee, N.C.
The undercard will kick off with a flyweight (125 pounds) meeting between Roger Blanque (4-3) of Barcelona and Carlos Puente, Jr. (6-6) of El Centro, Calif.

Plus, in the co-main event Mexico’s Alitzel Mariscal (2-2) returns to action after recovering from a hand injury and will meet her toughest test yet, Tennessee’s Shannon Goughary (5-7) at 115 lbs.
Gonzalez vs Alvarez
Alvarez first appearance in la jaula was a unanimous decision against Gerrick Bontekoe in October 2021 despite several opportunities of putting an end to the fight. But the second time around, Alvarez showed the world backed up his undefeated record by putting a quick end to Daniel Sanchez Vazquez in March 2022.
The Sanford MMA, now known as Kill Cliff FC, has a background in judo and sambo, in fact, he has a few championships won in sambo.
As for Gonzalez, who trains with VFS Academy in Chicago, Illinois, he was scheduled to compete earlier this year; however, an injury put a break to his 2022 appearance. Last year, he defeated Jean Marc Howell by way of decision, UFC veteran Jim Alers, Samuel Alvarez and Cristian Perez all by decision to win an eight-man tournament.
Both fighters know what each is capable of especially when it comes to knockout power. If the fight is a striking war, it would be curious to see who has the toughest chin because both fighters have hands of stone followed by great combinations.
However, the edge goes to Gonzalez when it comes to wrestling and cardio. But Alvarez does posses good takedown defense. Expect a chess match in this main event.
Mariscal vs Goughary
Mariscal last competed in la jaula in April of 2021 when she lost to Maraya Miller by way of unanimous decision. She trains with the Mad Dogs team in Mexicio with the likes of Periquito Madrigal, who is her boyfriend, and Rafael Espino who has competed for Combate Global. She is 2-2 in Combate Global with all of her professional career fights have taken place inside la jaula.
Goughary counts on three submission victories and two TKO victories. She has competed against UFC fighter Hannah Goldy and Combate Global’s Yajaira Cunningham and Kayla Hracho. Her last fight was against Kelly D’Angelo a unanimous decision defeat.
Both women’s expertise is in their striking. Right from the start, both women will strike. The advantage on the ground does go to Goughary, who loves to throw roundhouse kicks when possible. As the females who have competed inside la jaula, this fight will deliver mucho mas accion.
