Background

Serhiy Sidey vs. Ali Wasuk

The fight between Sidey and Wasuk was expected to go down in July, however, it was forced to be cancelled. Sidey (5-1) went on to shock local fans in his Battlefield debut, as he finished Gio Platon with a first-round triangle choke to earn BFL gold. One night later, at BFL 69, Sidey and Wasuk faced off in the cage and the promotion announced the main event bout for BFL 70.

Wasuk (4-1) has been out of action since March but will look to continue where he left off. After losing his professional MMA debut, the former BFL amateur champion has gone on to win four in a row, with two decisions and two first-round rear-naked chokes.

Needless to say, these two have been anticipating this fight for some time and when the cage door locks, fans are in for a treat.

Gio Platon vs. Austin Russell

In nine career bouts, Gio Platon has not lost back-to-back fights and he’s coming off a loss to the aforementioned Sidey at BFL 68. Will this stay true against Austin Russell at BFL 70? This fight may or may not set up a rematch for Platon or a title shot for Russell.

Platon (2-1) is known for his explosive power and he showcases that in each and every outing, but his wrestling and jiu-jitsu are very overlooked aspects of his game. Almost all of his victories have come via strikes, other than his second pro fight, which shocked many, other than himself when he locked up a very tight rear-naked choke victory against Matty Hovorka at BFL 67.

Russell (2-0) made an impressive Battlefield debut at BFL 69 when he earned a first-round high elbow guillotine choke victory against the highly touted prospect Indroop Virk. His first professional fight went to the judges’ scorecards and he earned a split decision victory against Seth Connor at Modern FC 4.

The co-main event is guaranteed to be fireworks.

Jayden Martin vs. Chester Post

If you were just looking at this match on paper you may not be overwhelmed, but if you dig a little deeper then this could be a sleeper pick for fight of the night.

Martin (0-1) has not been active since losing his professional debut in 2019. The Franco Kickboxing Pankration product looked to be having fun in his fight against Bryce Gougeon at Rise FC 4 and then a freak knee injury occurred forcing his corner to stop the fight. The lifelong martial artist has had an injury-plagued career, however, he is still very young and one of the most notable prospects coming out of British Columbia.

Post (8-26-1) has been fighting on the Canadian professional scene since 2004 and has fought some of the most recognizable names from across the country. Record aside, experience could come into play in this match-up and Post definitely has that in his favor.
