Scott Coker: Fedor Emelianenko vs Alistair Overeem ’should be an amazing fight’
Quoteworthy:
“Although the deal with Strikeforce is an exclusive one, it’s far from a contract signed in blood as Fedor is currently contractually obligated to fight for Strikeforce for just one year. Basically it’s three fights over the next year, and we’ll start in the fall some time… The very first fight that Fedor fights will be on Showtime, and then the roll-out of television from there forward hasn’t been determined 100%, but his first fight will be on Showtime. [Fedor] and Alistair Overeem should be an amazing fight, and people that haven’t seen Alistair, you know, he’s an amazing fighter.. I think we should do a couple of fights and build that one up, and then let their champion fight our champion, and let’s see what happens. We’re hoping that Alistair will be ready to fight in the Fall, and we can put him on one of the cards with Fedor, and not fight against each other but fight against someone else, and let’s build that fight up.”

Lol, I know eh, he's fuckin jacked!!! And he was a scrawny piece of crap in Pride, now he's a monster, there's no way you get THAT much bigger naturally, impossible, that's like saying Brock Lesnar is natural. And people will say, ya but if you test Brock he won't test positive, thats not the point, he juiced it for the past 10 years, and the longest half life of any juice is about 18 months (deca). So maybe he hasn't juiced it in 18 months, but that doesn't mean he's natural, lol.

Strikeforce announced today that former PRIDE FC Heavyweight Champion and Affliction MMA headliner Fedor Emelianenko (30-1) has signed a multi-fight contract with the San Jose-based mixed martial arts promotion under a special co-promotion agreement with M-1 Global.
“The Last Emperor” was in cruise control under the Affliction MMA banner after back-to-back wins over former UFC Heavyweight Champions Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski.
He was in line for a WAMMA title defense against Josh Barnett at the Aug. 1 ‘Trilogy’ event until “The Babyface Assassin” got popped for steroids in a random pre-fight drug test.
The financially unstable promotion closed up shop shortly thereafter, leaving Emelianenko (once again) the hottest free agent in mixed martial arts.
The Russian gladiator was first up for grabs following the collapse of Pride FC in 2007. The UFC lobbied hard to bring the Sambo champion on board however, talks broke down when the parties could not agree on an exclusive fight contract, eventually leading him to Affliction under his terms.
It was those terms that once again failed to bring him to the Octagon despite the financial efforts of Zuffa, who went on record with a guarantee that he would never see a deal as lucrative as the one they offered.
In the end, co-promotion was apparently more important than cash, as Strikeforce brings M-1 Global into a partnership similar to the one it had with the now-defunct Elite XC back in 2008.
From Vadim Finkelchtein, President of M-1 Global:
“I am very happy and excited about the upcoming collaboration with Strikeforce. We are very pleased that we found a reliable partner and I feel that Strikeforce and M-1 can support each other on many things. This will create big opportunities for both parties to test their fighters against worthy opponents.”
Strikeforce currently has a heavyweight roster that’s comprised of potential opponents like Brett Rogers, Fabricio Werdum and Alistair Overeem.

Not only is he athletically head-and-shoulders above most of the roster, but he has the best ground and pound game in the division and is one of the primary reasons people are talking about the Heavyweight division again. One guy does not make the HW division exciting in the long run. After Brock defends his title a few times the HW division will be over and done with in the UFC. The HW division is crap and have been so for a few years.

The division everywhere else is crap, but the UFC's Heavyweight division is anything but crap. Anyone who still promotes such rhetoric is merely just trying to defend Fedor running from the UFC once again. Have a look at the roster: *Brock Lesnar *Frank Mir *Randy Couture *Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira *Shane Carwin *Cain Velasquez *Junior dos Santos *Heath Herring *Cheick Kongo *Mirko Filipovic *Ben Rothwell Not to mention it will likely add a few more, depending on how many from TUF are worth keeping around. You won't find a deeper, more plentiful Heavyweight division anywhere else in the world.

*Heath Herring *Cheick Kongo *Mirko Filipovic *Ben Rothwell
LOL wow.. Kongo has been fed cans, the minute he takes on a dude with some good wrestling hes gets owned i mean 250 punches to the head?
Mirko is over the hill no matter how much he thinks he isnt
Herring fights once a year if that
Ben Rothwell, UCF wouldnt have even signed him if he didnt get dumped by affliction, the signed him to pad their already shithouse HW division
Randy,Lesnar and NOG & Mir and probably Carwin make this division.
As much as Dana like to think the UFC houses the best heavies theres some in other promotions too, the UFC isnt the be all end all.

Yeah, because fighting Sergei, Werdum, Overeem and others is much more suitable Herring is still a tough fight for anyone. He'll never win any titles, but he is a true fighter. Don't sleep on Junior dos Santos.

Your argument is just a circle, at the end of the day the UFC heavy weight division isnt as stacked as you think
There are better fights but Overeem is another Kongo with grappling and Wedum is basically another Mir
Brock is the only fight people wanna see and thats why people are pissed.
About time people got over it IMO

Jamal wrote: the UFC heavy weight division isnt as stacked as you think ... I think it's stacked? I just listed 11 fighters in the division, and that's not counting some I may have forgotten, some that may be signed soon and some thay may come from TUF. What part of that are you not understanding? Make all the excuses you want, but the best depth you'll find in the Heavyweight division is in the UFC. Every other promotion has a limited division, at best.
