LFA CEO Ed Soares announced that a baker’s dozen professional fights will take place at LFA 211 on the first day of summer, when promotion returns to New York with a fight card stacked with a world title fight, international stars, and top regional talent. LFA 211 will kick off UFC International Fight Week, which takes place in Las Vegas and concludes with UFC 317. LFA 211 will be the ninth LFA event to take place in the Empire State.
LFA 211: Mesquita vs. Dinwoodie, takes place Friday, June 20th at the Seneca Allegany Resort & Casino in Salamanca, New York, which is located 15 miles from the Pennsylvania border in western New York. The main event will feature a women’s bantamweight world title fight when 10x Jiu-Jitsu world champion Bia Mesquita faces top undefeated Canadian prospect Sierra Dinwoodie.
“We are bringing another stacked fight card to New York at LFA 211,” stated Soares. “The event in Upstate New York will feature thirteen pro fights representing eleven countries and five continents. That includes Bia Mesquita, who is the greatest female jiu-jitsu competitor of all time and a fierce Brazilian competitor. She will face top Canadian prospect Sierra Dinwoodie for the vacant LFA women’s bantamweight world title in a battle of undefeated prospects. This bout features the two premier women’s MMA prospects in the bantamweight division and will cap an unforgettable night of action for our incredible fight fans in New York.”
LFA 211 will feature a total of thirteen pro fights, which includes a trio of marquee matchups that will kick off MMA’s red-hot summer schedule. These three bouts will take place prior to the previously announced world championship headliner between Mesquita (4-0) and Dinwoodie (4-0).
Phumi Nkuta (9-0) returns to the LFA after scoring the biggest win of his career in the main event of LFA 202. The win came against Adrian Garcia in Nkuta’s promotional debut and left the local fans wanting more. The New York based fighter of South African descent is a longtime training partner of current and past UFC champions Merab Dvalishvili and Aljamain Sterling. He now looks to continue following in their footsteps. Nkuta will face former LFA flyweight world champion Cody Davis (10-2), which sets up a battle between two of the most highly-touted 125-pound prospects in the sport. Davis trains out of CMMA in Los Angeles, California and has earned 6 of his 10 wins inside the LFA Octagon. That includes winning the LFA flyweight world title two summers ago. Davis now looks to get a shot at the title he once held by becoming the first man to defeat Nkuta.
Giovanna Canuto (5-1) will be making one of the most anticipated returns this year after scoring a huge win in her most recent bout at LFA 194. The win came against fellow Brazilian and BJJ black belt Ershirley Kessy in what was Canuto’s first fight in the state of New York. The five-time IBJJF champion decimated her fellow countrywoman from the opening bell and earned the victory with a violent display of ground n’ pound in the first round. Canuto will now return to the state to face top Mexican prospect Flor Hernandez. The five-time IBJJF champion now faces top Mexican prospect Flor Hernandez, who looks to build on the recent success of Mexican women in MMA, following stars like Alexa Grasso, Irene Aldana, and Loopy Godinez. A win in her promotional debut against the former LFA title challenger could put Hernandez in line for a title shot of her own.
Lucas Seibert (4-0) will be making his highly-anticipated LFA debut with possibly the largest fan base in attendance. Known as “Steel City”, Seibert is a proud native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and a graduate of West Virginia University (WVU). Accordingly, fans from both nearby states are expected to make the drive across the New York border. In fact, the former NCAA Division I wrestler will be making his LFA debut fresh off submitting the reigning NCAA Division I wrestling champion Lucas Byrd in a professional submission grappling match that just aired on UFC Fight Pass. Seibert will face Gustavo Kruger (4-0), who is a Brazilian prospect with an identical record. Hailing from the state of Rio Grande do Sul in the south of Brazil, the man known as “Dimenor” has fought exclusively in his home state. He will now make his international debut to kick off the main card of LFA 211.
