Background

LFA announced today that the promotion will have a new championship headliner when it returns to the “Land of 10,000 Lakes” in April at LFA 181. The change came after the champion Eduardo Chapolin and his replacement Jordan Harris both withdrew from their bouts with an injury. This will be the twenty-first LFA event to take place in the state of Minnesota. Twenty of these events have taken place at the Mystic Lake Casino Hotel, which is located just 25 minutes southwest of the Twin Cities.

LFA 181 takes place Friday, April 5th at the Mystic Lake Casino Hotel in Prior Lake, Minnesota.

The main event will now feature an interim flyweight title fight between undefeated top contenders Igor Siqueira and Eimar Hernadez.

“We are excited to bring the Interim Flyweight Championship to Minnesota at LFA 181,” stated LFA CEO Ed Soares. “The new main event will crown an interim flyweight champion in one of our deepest divisions. LFA flyweight champion Eduardo Chapolin withdrew from his title defense against Eimar Hernandez due to an injury. This created an interim title shot opportunity for Jordan Harris. Unfortunately, Harris was then injured. Now former LFA title challenger Igor Siqueira will step in. Siqueira was set to headline LFA 180 this Friday against Kevin Fernandez, but Fernandez also withdrew with an injury. Siqueira will now face Hernandez for the interim title in a battle of top 125-pound prospects. The Mystic Lake Casino Hotel is an incredible venue and we look forward to bringing another explosive title fight to our great fight fans in the Upper Midwest.”

Siqueira (9-2) is a man looking to make a statement after proving he belongs at the top of the flyweight division last summer. After his teammate Felipe Bunes signed with the UFC and vacated the strap, Siqueira fought Cody Davis in an epic title fight that lasted nearly the full 25-minutes in the main event of LFA 161. The 30-year-old native of Moju, Pará, Brazil came up short that night in Los Angeles, but immediately asked LFA brass for the toughest test available in order to put himself back in the title picture. The Paraense was granted that request in the form of Fernandez. Siqueira is full of confidence as he trains alongside the legendary Pitbull Brothers, Patricio and Patricky, as well as former LFA champions Leandro Higo and Bunes. The man known as “Golden Boy” is well traveled having earned notable wins in his native Brazil as well as Colombia and Mexico. Now the regional champion looks to pick up his first title on American soil as he gets set to headline a second consecutive LFA event.

Hernandez (7-0) is a man that is seeing his path to the LFA title come full circle. Four years ago, Hernandez concluded his amateur MMA career at LFA 82 at the Mystic Lake Casino Hotel. This happened just a couple weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 changed the landscape of MMA by forcing the cancellation of most events. The Milwaukee, Wisconsin native decided to turn pro the following year and made the move west to train with UFC Hall of Fame member Urijah Faber at Team Alpha Male in Sacramento, California. In that time, Hernandez has also had the benefit of training alongside UFC star and LFA great Maycee Barber. The two have trained together at Roufusport in Milwaukee and Team Alpha Male. The dynamic striker has won all of his bouts and a regional title since turning pro and now looks for LFA gold when he returns to the prom
