http://www.sherdog.com/news/news/chou-n ... aker-20138Strikeforce announced Saturday the hiring of Richard Chou as the promotion’s first official matchmaker.
Chou will be responsible for creating matchups between fighters for monthly Strikeforce events airing on Showtime, as well as the promotion’s anticipated Nov. 7 debut on CBS. Prior to Chou’s hiring, Strikeforce used a committee, headed by CEO Scott Coker, to create its matchups.
“Strikeforce has done some incredible things over the course of the last few years to emerge as one of the world’s premiere MMA promotions,” Chou said in a release. “They have a deep roster of world-class talent, so it’s going to be very exciting and a lot of fun to be able to put together highly compelling matchups for their events.”
Chou served in the same capacity with the Rumble on the Rock and EliteXC promotions. The 30-year-old Pepperdine University alum claims 10 years of experience in the sport, including a 2002 bout against Nick Bradley at Super Brawl 25. He refereed more than 100 mixed martial arts matches in Hawaii.
Strikeforce will hold its next event on Nov. 6 at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif. A lightweight bout pairing Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Jorge Gurgel with the unbeaten Billy Evangelista will headline the show.
