Strikeforce Fighters Didn't Know of Cancelled Show Until Press Release Hit

Kyle Terada-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire
Until press release reached inboxes and word got out on Twitter, the Strikeforce fighters scheduled for Nov. 3rd card did not know of cancellation. Tweets and short quotes from Dan Cormier, Jason High, Tim Kennedy.

The November 3rd Strikeforce show that once had Daniel Cormier and Frank Mir as headliners has been cancelled according to a press release the fight organization released.

And the fighters involved in the card didn't know about it until the press release hit inboxes all around the MMA media world.

Ariel Helwani

I just spoke to @dc_mma about today's news, and guess what? He had no idea. Incredible. His quotes coming to @MMAFighting shortly.

Cormier spoke to Helwani for a short time and the Mike Chiappetta piece on the Strikeforce cancellation features a quote from that conversation:

"I wish somebody would have told me something," he told MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani. "This is unbelievable. I'm very upset. I just want to be informed. That's all. I don't think that's asking for too much."

Cormier would later tweet out some inspirational words, which Jason High (also fighting on the card) immediately agreed with.

No public word has come from Jorge Masvidal, Bobby Green or Liz Carmouche right now. Or Tim Kennedy and Trevor Smith.

Kennedy proved to be kind of prophetic in his own way, when he responded to a fan asking if he was still fighting on November 3rd just a day ago:

Danny@DannytheDouche 11 Oct 12
@TimKennedyMMA you still fighting on the third?
Tim Kennedy

@TimKennedyMMA
@DannytheDouche As far as I know. If you hear anything let me know. I will probably read about strikeforce closing on the Internet.

Source Updated: Strikeforce Fighters Didn't Know of Cancelled Show Until Press Release Hit

STRIKEFORCE PRESS RELEASE
Strikeforce announced today it is planning its next card set to air live on Showtime in January 2013. Further information on the fight card and location will be announced shortly.
Strikeforce also announced the cancellation of its Nov. 3 event at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Okla., due to injuries sustained by main event star Frank Mir and co-main event star Luke Rockhold. Refunds for tickets purchased are available at point of sale.
“Due to a series of injuries, we were forced to cancel the upcoming card on Nov. 3, but are already working to put together a stacked card in January,” Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker said.
“While we’re disappointed with the cancellation, we are looking forward to an even bigger Strikeiforce event on Showtime early next year,” said Stephen Espinoza, Executive Vice President & General Manager, Showtime Sports®
