Firstly I wasn't overly impressed with the event. 7 of the 11 fights went to a decision.
Matt Serra won in pretty convincing fashion. I thought he might have a little harder time. Frank Trigg complaining about the stoppage, seriously? He was clearly rocked and after the first punch on the ground his arms were by his side until Rosenthal stopped it. Good stoppage imo.
I was completed shocked at how easily Chael Sonnen dominated Nate Marquart. Nate almost looked like he was throwing the fight, I'd love to see the compustrike stats on that one.
Paulo Thiago is a machine and looked awesome against Swick. Sweet submission, the angle Swick's head was on was insane.
Was almost going to put money on Thiago but ah well.
Randy Couture looked good, but it was against an old slow Coleman.
I really liked newcomer Phil Davis, showed that he has plenty of raw talent, and with some coaching could be an excellent fighter. I wish he finished the fight though. I hope a decent trainer takes him under their wing.

Marquart got ground on for 15 hard minutes, so I wouldn't say he looked any worse than I'd expected if Sonnen was able to really apply his game, which he did spectacularly. I picked Marquart for the win and was suprised he lost, but I still say he tried hard and got in some good shots and a nice sub attempt or two. Just got beaten up... Swick and Gracie were the two big disappointments for me. Swick looked very cautious and sloppy with his punches - way too many head-down-and-bowl-a-cricket-ball punches. Thiago looked great, though, and I take nothing away from him. Swick just never looked even close to winning the round/fight. And Gracie? Wow... Hope that was a major adrenaline dump and not that he took the fight lightly. Two more guys I'd picked for the competition - not a good event for me I thought Torres was robbed in his fight. I gave him two rounds for sure and could understand a 3-0 decision. How all the judges gave it 2-1 Melvin, I wasn't sure at all. Will have to watch it again at some point. Serra looked excellent, as did Davis and Couture. Danzig also looked good and very crisp - could still do with more punching power though. Sonnen was my performance of the event, although Maia's stand-up was excellent and very suprising, so ran it pretty close.

Yeah I forgot the Torres fight. I picked him to win and he was definitely robbed imo.

jnrpepaseed wrote: Davis looked massive was bit gutted he didnt end his fight. Agreed. It's frustrating to watch these wrestlers control opponents for 15 minutes (or more) without doing an serious damage to their opponent or finishing them via submission. Even though I'm a BJJ grappling fan, so I tend to root for the ground tactician, fights like this make me pray the guy on the bottom gets up and knocks the wrestler out withone punch. Yeah....great....you dominated your opponent....and if I wanted to watch collegiate wrestling I would. But I don't. It sucks. I wonder...if that fight was unlimited rounds and a knockout/submission was required, would Davis have pitter-pattered him to death while sitting on him, or eventually would Stann knock him out with an actual finishing strike. If you're going to be a ground-and-pound fighter, please have some pound.

Agree with all above, and have one more thing to add:
I'm getting increasingly suspicious of the "Submission of the Night" award. IMO Paulo Thiago's D'Arce choke was much more impressive than Randy's RNC.
The last UFCs had something similar, as I recall, a slick triangle choke that didn't get the nod. Also, George Sotiropolous (though I love him so) surely deserved at least one Sub O' The Night, and never got it.
I did real bad for my picks this event. Seems like alot of you had the same trouble, so I might still be up there...

Well It seems I am getting more into this MMA stuff I really enjoyed Randy's performance. Mark looked a bit slow and heavier than Randy but I must say that Randy did do a tremendous job. He looked pretty fast, had some good combinations and well the choke was just awesome and rather unexpected. Randy I think knows so well how to "chess: his way through a fight using great tactical abilities and moves. Another great fight was Thiago. He is really powerful and this was probably the best fight in this event I think. Paul Davis was showing some nice wrestling moves and some nice knees thus flexibility so I enjoyed that match as well eventhough I am not really a fan of wrestling in MMA. But for a newcomer he indeed showed potential. Add some punch power and he might be a contender one day. Big disappointment was the match of Gracie. He started out well but he did meet the man with the hammer as we say in Holland when someone gets tired. I think he would have fainted even from exhaustion like you see in the cartoons sometimes I also expected a bit more of Dan Miller. That fight was a bit boring. Put one in a dress and it could have been one of those dance shows they have now. So not really exciting and I think the crowd also booed because it was almost as if they did not want to fight. Sonnen also did an excellent job despite the fact that he was bleeding a lot. Great escape from the choke and nice wrestling skills but once again I rather see some great knock outs.

Couldnt agree more DasG ! Easily better submission - but they gave that as finish first turning point of the night - Im guessing fighters dont get anything for that and its just a TV gimick? I was really impressed with Meia's stand-up....and even more impressed by his willingness to stand-up after the brutal knockout my marquardt... Sonnen - wow! I really did not see that coming at all...total domination.....hats off to the guy.... Randy looked great - but I cant tell how much of that was due to Coleman looking utter sh*t?! Rolles Gracie was an embarrassment - you cant seriously fight in the UFC with cardio like that....

Rolles Gracie was an embarrassment - you cant seriously fight in the UFC with cardio like that.... This. It's been years since I watched a fight on a PPV card and thought that I should start training again. Being a BJJ guy, I hated the Frye,Coleman, Couture, Randleman wave of wrestlers into MMA. But over the years, watching him, I've turned into a fan, partially because I hope he doesn't get killed. It's turning into a real-life Mickey Rourke-esque Wrestler role. It's really sad to watch, especially given that he didn't tap out on the choke. There are two types of people who get choked all the way out without tapping. Those who are unable to due to position of the choke, and those who cannot tap because tapping would mean too much. A Gracie will not tap. Sorry Gracie's, your family legacy is amazing. Huge fan of you guys. You guys started it. But it's 2010 and it's okay. Tap. And Coleman will not tap. Because now we're almost crossing over to the professional wrestling side. It's the first fight I've ever seen on a UFC ppv card where I could really imagine Couture whispering to Coleman in the clinch,"Double leg me and I'll go backwards. Come on buddy, you can do it. Let's give them a show." The only thing missing was the referee lifting Coleman arm three times. Sad. Coleman...love your heart, but it's been over for a while. (Sidenote: Is it steroids? Because he had nothing....did not look like the guy in the Bonnar fight.) My thoughts on Rolles Gracie...why in God's name did they sneak that into the PPV? Is Dana White trying to tell the world empahtically that this is no longer the Gracie's UFC? Is he trying to hype up the need for a Gracie win in the upcoming Matt Hughes/Gracie fight? This fight did not beling within 150 miles of an Octagon. Damn, I'd like to invite him over to my house so I can tell the world that I beat a "Gracie." Sakuraba and I could drink together as duel Gracie hunters. Please. Go away silly man.
