A bout between welterweight contenders who are looking to get back in the win column is in the works for UFC 139.
UFC officials today announced Martin Kampmann (17-5 MMA, 8-4 UFC) and Rick Story (13-4 MMA, 6-2 UFC) have agreed to meet at the Nov. 19 event.
UFC 139 takes place in San Jose, Calif., likely at the HP Pavilion.
The night's main card, including an expected heavyweight title fight between champion Cain Velasquez and top contender Junior Dos Santos, airs on pay-per-view. Kampmann vs. Story likely will be part of the PPV broadcast or an expected "UFC Prelims" special on Spike TV.
Both fighters are coming off high-profile losses.
While stuck in a two-fight losing skid, Kampmann easily could have won both bouts. Following a streak of four wins in five bouts, Kampmann suffered a close split-decision defeat to Jake Shields at UFC 121. Then, earlier this year in the headliner of UFC on Versus 3, the Xtreme Couture fighter suffered a close unanimous-decision defeat to Diego Sanchez in a "Fight of the Night" performance.
Kampmann had been slated to fight John Howard at UFC on Versus 4 but was forced off the June card due to injury.
Story, meanwhile, recently fought and suffered a unanimous-decision loss to Charlie Brenneman in the UFC on Versus 4 headliner. Story expected to fight Nate Marquardt at the event, but his opponent was scratched from the card on the eve of the event after failing to receive medical clearance (high testosterone levels).
Prior to the defeat, Story, a Brave Legion team member, had five straight fights (over the likes of Johny Hendricks and Thiago Alves) and was knocking on the door for a title shot.
