Here is some news surrounding the UFC that may have been overlooked over the past few days.
A short while ago, Kenny Florian announced that he had decided to drop from lightweight to featherweight for his next bout. It seems as if his first fight at the 145-pound limit will take place at UFC 131.
On ESPN's MMA Live, he announced he would meet Diego Nunes on the June 11 card, set to take place at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Florian's last fight was a unanimous decision loss to Gray Maynard on Aug. 28. Nunes last fought on New Year's Day, scoring a split-decision victory over former World Extreme Cagefighting champion Mike Brown.
Another fight that will take place at UFC 131 was revealed by Heavy.com recently. Dustin Poirier, coming off a huge win over the highly-ranked Josh Grispi will face Rani Yahya on the June 11 card.
Yahya, a submission expert, won his last bout, an unanimous decision victory over Mike Brown on the Fight for the Troops card Jan. 22.
Wanderlei Silva, who was rumored to be facing Brian Stann attempted to clear the air as to why he didn't accept the Stann fight.
"I don't know what day I'm going to be able to fight (due to rehabbing from surgery). I don't want to hold an opponent, he has his life," Silva told MMAHeat.com.
"This guy is an American hero, he's a really good guy, I like him. For me, those are good points. One day, I'm going to fight with him, of course. Don't worry guys. I'm going to fight with him."
Silva's warm and fuzzy feelings for Stann do not appear to extend to all fighters. Silva recently called out Vitor Belfort, telling Tatame, "And now, where are you running to? I’m challenging him, I want him.”
Belfort answered that challenge, telling IG.com.br, "When the time comes, there will be nowhere to run. Nobody’s running from anyone. I just don’t want to wait till UFC Rio to fight again.”
