THE WEEK THAT WAS
Fighters of the Week:
1. Frankie Edgar (UFC) - (Howard Finkel voice)....And...NEEEWWWW UFC Lightweight Champion of the World! Edgar did what you had to do to beat BJ, and something that nobody thought he could, outbox him. His boxing, energy, and takedowns, while brief, still made an impact, and in a close fight (one judge had it 50-45 for Edgar, no way), he defeated the champ by unanimous decision in probably the biggest upset since Serra-St. Pierre to become the UFC Lightweight Champion. 2. Roger Huerta (Bellator) - El Matador is back! A fantastic dismantling of undefeated Chad Hinton to move one spot closer in the Bellator Lightweight Tourney merits a #2 spot. 3. Georgi Karakhanyan (Bellator) - In a big upset, Georgi takes down Bao Quach with a knee KO in the first round to move on in the Bellator Featherweight Tournament. 4. Anderson Silva (UFC) - Ugh. I hate to give him this spot after his dispicable performance, but *sigh* a win is a win and he kept the UFC Middleweight Title...bitch... 5. Matt Hughes (UFC) - The new Gracie Killer struck again with a beatdown of Renzo Gracie for a TKO win. Matt only wants high-profile fights, what about Hughes vs. Penn again? 6. Joe Warren (Bellator) - My pick to win it all in the Featherweight tourney in Bellator 30-27'd Eric Marriot the whole way and punched his ticket to the next round. 7. Rafael dos Anjos (UFC) - Pulled an upset by taking down Terry Etim by armbar at UFC 112 8. Phil Davis (UFC) - The phenom proved his worth by anaconda choking fellow undefeated propsect Alexander Gustafsson out in the first round. 9. Mark Munoz (UFC) - TKO'd one of my least favorite fighters, Kendall Grove, in the second round at UFC 112. 10. Josh Burkman (Showdown Fights) - The veteran took down Jake Paul in the main event of Showdown Fights
Quote of the Week:
"I'll watch the fight, but Silva's been in my crosshairs anyway, whether it's beating him for the belt or to win the belt and go beat him up after that. He's getting beaten up in 2010 by Chael Sonnen. That's been the story from the jump. There's people out there that need (to be) beaten up – he's one of them. And I have a moral obligation to society to beat him up." - Chael Sonnen
Upset of the Week:
Rafeal dos Anjos def. Ter....I keed .....FRANKIE OVER BJ!

Fighters I'm Rooting For This Week:
1. Gilbert Melendez (Holy shit do I hate Shinya Aoki. Really. Badly. That little schoolboy looking, arrogant, overhyped weasel needs to be taken down a peg and I hope Gilbert is the one to do it.) 2. Jake Rosholt (Jake has always been one of my favorites. Google "Jake Rosholt dog" and be amazed at the best dog ever. I'd love to see him back in the UFC, and a win over Jeremy Horn should do it. I like Horn alot, but it's Jake's time.) 3. Jason Miller (Prelim or not, I want Mayhem to get a much-needed win to propel him either in Strikeforce or Dream.) 4. Ben Askren (The dude is hyped, but I still want to see him dominate and work his way up. I'm thrilled that Bellator has him, and hopefully he becomes a draw for them.) 5. Toby Imada (I like the guy alot, he's hella fun to watch.)
Best Cards:
1. Strikeforce: Nashville 2. KOTC: Bad Boys II 3. Bellator 14 4. Wreck MMA: Unite For Brian's Fight 5. ROC 29
Fights I'm Looking Forward To:
1. Jake Shields (c) vs. Dan Henderson (How could you not? Hendo vs. Shields! Ironically, Shields is best at 170, while Dan is best at 205. I'm picking Henderson to win this and easily, but it's gonna be fun to see two great grapplers go at it. Add to the fact that they've been training together and are great friends now makes it all the cooler. Can anyone hate Hendo? Besides Bisping? Hell, even Rampage said he loves the guy.) 2. Gilbert Melendez (c) vs. Shinya Aoki (Read above for my take on Aoki. Get him, Gil.) 3. Gegard Mousasi (c) vs. Muhammed Lawal (I really, really like both of these guys, so couldn't pick a favorite, but am totally jacked to see this fight. I'm almost positive someone gets knocked the shit out.) 4. Jake Rosholt vs. Jeremy Horn (The legend versus the up-and-comer. I said above I love Rosholt, but this will be a great test for him against one of the best fighters of all time.) 5. Ray Mercer vs. Ron Sparks (I thought about taking the high road and going with Askren vs. Thomas, but c'mon, admit it, you want to see this fight. Don't lie.)
In Closing:
What a fantastic week for MMA. So UFC doesn't have an event, cry me a fucking river. Strikeforce has a loaded card with three title fights, Bellator keeps rolling on, KOTC has their best card in months, and three promotions, ROC, CFC (where Hector Lombard is their Middleweight champ and fought on their last card), and FCF (which puts on quality shows, often with female MMA, as well) are putting on awesome shows. Wreck MMA has a stacked show for charity, as well. If you're a hardcore fan, this should be a fantastic week for you.

I love your posts they are great reading!
Yeah this week is looking fantastic, I can only agree. I am thrilled abut Bellator and the first event of this season lived up to all my expectations. After a period of several UFC events it will be nice to see some action from the other promotions. Hendo vs Shields and Mousassi vs Lawal are two fights Im really looking forward to. And with all those other events it looks like we will be busy by the end of the week
2010 is an swesome MMA year so far and it's looking really good ahead! One can only hope it stays like this forever
