hey guys, after a couple of months off BJJ with Gi i was thinking and did go back to my training again last night.. the place where i trained only trained with Gi but last night i found out they are now also doin a class every week for No Gi which is pretty exciting + also a MMA class which they also never had before.. me personally, i prefer No Gi + love the new MMA class...

it was interesting to see them go down this path, i was looking at other places to train due to wanting No Gi and MMA based training but didnt want to leave due to awesome trainers and good group of students... i guess that they are getting with the times and filling the demands of what more people want and are looking for, after all they are a business.

so my question/s are do you guys find that your gyms are doing this too, going from only Gi to offering No Gi also? adding MMA classes too?

are more people training No Gi now then with Gi?

what is your opinion on Gi and No Gi training ? why do you favour one over the other?

I like to train both. Our school have classes on every weekday and we have nogi on tuesdays and thursdays.

Nogi grappling is faster due to lack of gi to grab on. It's also fun due to it's faster pace but i miss my collar chokes when
grappling nogi.

Gi grappling is much slower and you have a little more time to think your moves and techniques. And i think it's more technical. You also have the collar chokes and guards you can't really pull of in nogi (like spider guard). I think that grappling in gi improves your technique more because it allows you to have more time to think what to do and then you can translate your improvements pretty easily to nogi. Of course without grabbing your partners clothes.

So personally I like to train both but i train usually 3-4 times a week so i tend to go to 2-3gi classes and to 1 nogi class.

Self defence purposes -> Gi

Competition purposes -> No Gi

But preferably both!
