Talk about a stinker of a main card! What started off with violence quickly fizzled out. I can't say I blame the booing even though it wasn't justified for the main event.
As always guys look out for post fight related news under the SPOILER tab. Enjoy the rest of your week end everyone!

Spoiler:
Ryan Jimmo, Matthew Riddle, Bryan Caraway and Mitch Gagnon each earned $65,000 bonuses for their performances at Saturday's "UFC 149: Faber vs. Barao" pay-per-view event.

Jimmo earned the "Knockout of the Night" award, Riddle won the "Submission of the Night" bonus and Caraway and Gagnon took home "Fight of the Night."

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) learned of the winners and bonus amounts at the night's post-event news conference, where they were announced by UFC president Dana White.

UFC 149 took place at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary. It was the UFC's first visit to Canada's fourth largest city. The event's main card aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and Facebook.

Jimmo's "Knockout of the Night" bonus may have been one of the easier decisions in UFC bonus history. Jimmo, making his long-awaited UFC debut, tied the official UFC record with a seven-second knockout of Anthony Perosh. (Unofficially, the UFC recognizes a six-second knockout by Duane Ludwig – though the Nevada State Athletic Commission has said it must keep the result at 11 seconds.) A right hand right behind Perosh's ear had him out instantly, and a follow-up shot on the ground only came because referee Josh Rosenthal couldn't get there sooner.

Riddle and Clements went back and forth in their fight to open the pay-per-view's main card. Riddle controlled things on the ground, but in the standup game it was more of a slugfest at times. And in that slugfest, when Clements threw a third-round spinning back elbow, Riddle caught it and turned it into a picture-perfect standing arm-triangle choke. After taking the choke to the canvas with a trip takedown, Riddle soon was able to make Clements tap.

Caraway's rear-naked choke finish of home favorite Mitch Gagnon came in the third round. But he had to survive a tough first round from Gagnon just to get there. After Caraway took dozens of punches from Gagnon in the first, he was the fresher fighter in the second and third. And after securing a takedown along the fence in the last frame, Caraway quickly took Gagnon's back and worked until he was able to sink in the fight-ending choke. But it was their back-and-forth early in the fight that earned them "Fight of the Night."

Spoiler:
From the beginning, this card was cursed. UFC 149 was supposed to have Jose Aldo and Mauricio Rua, Yoshihiro Akiyama and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, but they and many others never made it to showtime. The hex, it seems, carried right into the Scotiabank Saddledome, and sat right in the middle of the octagon for most of the event.

There were good things that came out of UFC 149. Surely, there were, but it was difficult to separate any positives from the mostly lackluster main card that will create the impressions on most.

How bad was it? Well, you can accuse UFC president Dana White of being a one-man promotional machine, but when something is bad, he doesn't bite his tongue, even if it's at the expense of his own company. It was no different on Saturday night in the hours after the show, when White acknowledged his own disappointment at what had transpired."I said this the other day and it's true: We make money," he said. "This company makes money, and I like breaking records. We broke the gate record tonight and I'm embarrassed by it. I was excited when I heard and now I’m embarrassed. The undercard delivered -- they were awesome -- and the main card did not."

UFC 149 drew an arena record $4.1 million in ticket purchases from 16,089, and most fans probably left with mixed feelings. The event had some early impressive performances including a stunning seven-second knockout by the debuting Ryan Jimmo and a spirited back-and-forth battle between Bryan Caraway and Mitch Gagnon. The main card started off well with Matt Riddle and Chris Clements engaging in a fairly entertaining bout that ended in the third round with a Riddle arm-triangle choke submission win.

But that was the end of the UFC's good fortune as the curse returned with a vengeance. Brian Ebersole seemed flat against James Head, then Cheick Kongo and Shawn Jordan spent most of their 15 minutes locked in a clinch against the fence.

Hector Lombard figured to liven up the proceedings in his UFC debut, but instead, he shelved his aggressive approach and fought a reserved style against Tim Boetsch, leading to an upset split-decision win for Boetsch. Urijah Faber and Renan Barao then went five rounds, but the bout was long on technical fighting and short on fireworks, and given what had come before it, it was booed often. In the end, the strong start and poor finish to the event was just as unsatisfying as a thriller with an anti-climactic conclusion.

For his part, White seemed most angered by the Kongo-Jordan fight, calling its execution as well as the officiating of the match "disgusting."

"This isn’t the ultimate clinching championship," he said. "It’s the 'Fighting Championship.' And when you see two guys just clinching for three rounds, and then in the third round, they clinch for the entire five minutes, and this idiot [referee] is standing around looking at them. As a referee, your job is to enforce the rules and make sure that these guys fight. And if they're not fighting, you break them up and you make them fight. And we're talking about guys that are experienced. Experienced guys who have done enough fights by now. Yves Lavigne was horrendous tonight. If the officiating in this sport doesn't change, and I'm not just talking about this sport, I'm talking about combat sports in general, they're going to kill it."

White also expressed disappointment in Lombard saying, "I thought it was going to be a real war."

White said before the fight began, he was thankful Lombard and Boetsch were about to fight, thinking there was no chance the fight would be unentertaining. Instead, he got a Lombard the MMA fight world hadn't really seen before: cautious and conservative.

While he did say that any negativity around the Faber-Barao main event was misplaced or redirected from the rest of the card, he certainly wasn't leaving Calgary with good feelings about the show he had just produced. Even if they left with millions in revenue and a new arena record, it wasn't enough to put a smile on his face.

"I’m bummed out about it, I don't know what else to say," he said. "I'm pretty honest about it. I'm not out here saying that's the greatest show you've ever seen. It wasn't. When you buy tickets, we come into a market like this, we break the record and do the kind of gate we did because people believe in us. People believe in the UFC, and that when we come to town, we're going to bring you the best fights possible. And then our guys go out and they deliver. Like I said, this is a partnership between us and the fighters. We do our part and they always do theirs. Unfortunately, I was so excited to stick this one up everybody's a-- that said this card sucked, and we didn't."

Spoiler:
Saturday's UFC 149 co-main event was supposed to provide a little clarity to the middleweight title picture. And it did – sort of.

Tim Boetsch, a more than 3-to-1 underdog in his fight against former Bellator middleweight champ Hector Lombard, won a split decision – snapping Lombard's 25-fight unbeaten streak and throwing a wrench into the 185-pound class.

And because of that upset, UFC president Dana White was no closer after the card to figuring out the next opponent for champ Anderson Silva as he was before it – though he has an idea the direction he'd go if the clock was ticking and he had to pick immediately: Chris Weidman.

"If I had to right now say we have to make a fight right now because Anderson wants to fight in two months, I'd do the Weidman fight," White told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) following Saturday's post-event news conference. "I haven't talked to (Anderson) yet. He does want to fight. He's ready to go again. But I haven't talk to him yet."

UFC 149 took place at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary. It was the UFC's first visit to Canada's fourth-largest city. The event's main card aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and Facebook.

White said he believes Silva is likely to fight again before the end of 2012 or just after the start of 2013. And while he acknowledged other middleweights , such as Michael Bisping, are in the running, Weidman's recent brutal second-round knockout of Mark Munoz could have White interested.

"An impressive win's going to give somebody a title shot," White said. "I'm looking for a guy who goes out and performs like Weidman. You go in and you're ranked low in the Top 10 and you take out No. 2 or 3 the way you did – that's what I'm excited about."

White said a few key fights in the division will be figured out in the coming days – and just because Lombard was knocked off after coming in as a highly touted signing doesn't mean all is lost. Far from it – though White also has to deal with an apparently broken foot for Boetsch.

"This doesn't make the 185-pound division any less exciting right now," White said. "But (Boetsch) has a broken foot, Lombard lost. I had fights made with the winner of this one either way, and now we've got to regroup. Because of course, one guy loses and the other guy's injured."

Spoiler:
Matthew Riddle has nothing against fellow welterweight Dan Hardy. Aside, maybe, from his nationality.

Following an impressive "Submission of the Night" victory over Chris Clements (11-5 MMA, 1-1 UFC) at Saturday's UFC 149 event, Riddle (7-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) respectively mentioned Hardy as an opponent he'd like to fight next.

But his stump speech took a bizarre turn when he recalled an English fight fan who once spat in his mouth.

Riddle kicked off the night's pay-per-view main card at Calgary's Scotiabank Saddledome. After securing a standing arm-triangle choke, Riddle forced the fight to the mat and got the third-round tap-out, which netted him a $65,000 "Submission of the Night" bonus.

But perhaps his most entertaining moments came in the post-fight press conference. While initially declaring Hardy an opponent who could "put me on the map" if victorious, Riddle quickly recalled a run-in with one of his countrymen.

UFC president Dana White jokingly said he heard "Riddle hates English people" when the fighter mentioned Hardy. Little did the UFC boss know the can of worms he opened.

"I will be completely honest," Riddle said. "When I fought in Manchester, England, (for UFC 105), they were very cruel to me. One fan actually spit directly in my face, and he was lucky enough where it hit my mouth."

White's reaction? "Wow. I was actually kidding," he said.

But Riddle continued.

"To be completely honest, I don't have anything against English people," he said. "But ... I'll go over to London, and I'll put 'em down.

"It was my first international fight, and it was one I'll never forget. It was my first loss in the UFC (to English fighter Nick Osipczak), and ever since I've had that loss, I've never let anything like that happen to me again. All my other losses are usually 'Fight of the Night' or a decision loss, and that was the only time I was finished in my career."

Riddle then uncorked his final jab, and he put England in his crosshairs.

"To be disrespected like that ... for some butter-toothed Brit to spit in my mouth, that was some bull," he said. "And honestly it's never been the same."

Sure, Hardy is already booked to fight Amir Sadollah in September at UFC on FUEL TV 5 in Nottingham, England, but White said Riddle will get wish, apparently at some point.

"Wow," White said. "We're definitely making the Dan Hardy fight now."

Spoiler:
The heavily hyped UFC debut of former Bellator middleweight champ Hector Lombard (31-3-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) was an utter failure, and UFC president Dana White thinks it may be time for the former Olympic judoka to consider a new weightclass.

After Lombard turned in a lackluster effort against Tim Boetsch (16-4 MMA, 7-3 UFC) at Saturday night's UFC 149 event in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, the UFC boss said the stocky middleweight should at least consider dropping to 170 pounds.

"Lombard maybe should fight at 170," White said. "He made 185 easily. He's short and wide, but I think he could make 170."

Lombard's trademark aggression was nowhere to be found on Saturday night, and opponent Boetsch kept himself at a safe distance throughout the contest while peppering the Cuban judoka with leg kicks and avoiding heavy counters. The fight turned out to be a disappointment in terms of entertainment value, and despite suffering a broken foot in the second round, Boetsch walked away with a split-decision win.

"It wasn't the fight I was expecting," White admitted. "It just wasn't what I thought it was going to be. Whether it was Boetsch or Lombard winning, I was expecting a real war. I thought this thing was going to be a war."

White said he believes the "octagon jitters" that oftentimes affect fighters making their first appearance in the UFC could certainly have played a role in Lombard's odd performance. And while the UFC boss made it clear he was upset with the way the bout played out, he didn't seem to hold anything personal against Lombard.

"I don't know," White said. "We'll see what happens. You can't be angry with a guy. But it's just another way, and it shows you guys too, ranking guys who don't fight in the UFC, it's two different worlds."

Lombard wouldn't necessarily have an easier run at 170 pounds, but with a division full of fighters who tower over the 5-foot-9 American Top Teamer, White thinks "Lightning" should at least consider the move down from 185 pounds.

And most importantly, the UFC boss believes Lombard's UFC 149 loss proves once again how difficult it is to succeed in the octagon.

"It's the unfortunate thing about hype: When there's a lot of hype behind you and you don't live up to the hype, it goes away real quick," White said. "This is one of those things – the guy was on a 25-fight win streak, a lot of people were high on him, people have been talking about him forever. Guys that fight in other organizations end up in top-10 rankings, and it's a whole other world over here."
