It appears that Junior Dos Santos will need just one victory to get back into a title fight, and he'll get that chance on May 25th.
Junior dos Santos lost his coveted UFC heavyweight title to Cain Velasquez in December, but it seems that he won't have to wait around long for an opportunity to get it back. Dos Santos meets Mark Hunt in the co-main event of UFC 160 and according to UFC president Dana White, JDS will get a shot at the title against the winner of the main-event fight between Velasquez and Antonio Silva the same event. White made the statements at Saturday's UFC 159 post-fight press conference.
Dos Santos (15-2) was set to face Alistair Overeem at UFC 160, but Overeem suffered an injury and after some confusion, Hunt (9-7) was given the opportunity to step in. JDS stated that he was suffering though some personal problems and kidney issues in the fight with Velasquez which didn't have him at his best. He knocked Cain out in 64 seconds in their first meeting in 2011.
White has said before that the winner of this bout would be the number one contender, but it remains to be seen if they'd get an immediate shot considering Dana's propensity to change things on the fly. There's also the issue of Silva possibly beating Velasquez, setting up a bout between good friends in JDS and Silva. The two men have stated that they'd put their friendship aside to fight for a title though, so it shouldn't be a big deal.
